Kevin Bacon Reveals Shocking First Meeting With Wife Kyra Sedgwick When She Was 12!

On Monday, Kevin Bacon stunned both fans and Drew Barrymore when he disclosed the unusual story of how he initially met his current spouse, Kyra Sedgwick. This encounter took place when Kyra was only 12 years old, while Kevin was 19.

35 years ago, as young actors in 1978, they initially met and crossed paths, with Kevin humorously disclosing that Kyra wasn’t particularly impressed by him at the time. However, as adults, they reconnected and eventually got married.

In the past, when I was around 19, I was actively involved in Off-Broadway productions. At that time, she was about 12 years old.

On The Drew Barrymore Show, Bacon reminisced about how her mother had attended some of his Off-Broadway plays and recognized that the then-12-year-old Kyra aspired to become an actor.

In simpler terms, Sedgwick’s mother purchased tickets for one of his performances, and they happened to cross paths with him during his lunch hour.

I was purchasing a sandwich at the deli nearby when a 12-year-old girl approached me and cheerfully said, “Hey, I enjoyed your performance in the play.

‘And, according to her, I said, “Thanks, sweetie.” You know, kind of misogynistic,’ Bacon recalled.

The couple met for the second time in 1987 when Kevin and Kyra were cast in the movie Lemon Sky.

He went on, sharing that she recounted a tale from their initial encounter at Lemon Sky. She said to him, “Don’t you recall? We had met in the village following that play, don’t you remember that moment?

‘And I went, “Yeah I do remember that.” And she went, “Really” And I went, “No.”

‘So she did not like me. It was not love at first sight,’ he concluded.

If Kevin had decided to abandon Hollywood for a tranquil existence back in 1984, following his global success with the film Footloose, it’s possible that he would have never crossed paths with Kyra again in 1987.

On last week’s episode of Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals, Bacon confessed that his rapid rise to fame had left him feeling swamped.

He described his experience by saying, “I experienced the level of popularity similar to Footloose, shooting me into a kind of nationwide stardom. After that, I struggled to manage it all.” He likened this rapid escalation of fame to going from zero to sixty very quickly.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that as follows: Amidst the whirlwind of perpetual public scrutiny, relentless jet-setting, and a deteriorating love life, I, hailing from the vibrant city of Philadelphia, found myself yearning for the peaceful sanctuary of solitude.

He reminisced, saying, “In my mind, I decided that I would simply become a solitary man with a pet dog. I didn’t want anything, not even people around me.

Footloose was a cultural phenomenon, cementing Bacon’s status as a Hollywood leading man.

In a role as Ren McCormack, a city-raised character who dared to defy a small town’s dance prohibition, he became an adolescent heartthrob and etched his name into the annals of pop culture lore.

The movie’s triumph, propelled by a memorable soundtrack that included Kenny Loggins’ chart-topping theme song, catapulted Bacon to immediate stardom and paved the way for his successful career spanning several decades.

Although the appeal of rural living won over Bacon, his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, was less convinced by this idyllic vision.

Following their union, they adopted a quaint, dilapidated farmstead in the western part of Connecticut, as Bacon puts it, and this became their home for many years. She conformed to the way of life there.

In a small dwelling, I resided along with my companion, taking care of the firewood, and to make our leisure time more lively, she introduced a canine companion into our lives. Thus, it was us, accompanied by our dogs named Jane and Tybalt, as he reminisced.

But eventually, Sedgwick had enough, admitting, she was craving city life again.

Bacon relayed that she exclaimed, “This is awful! I feel like going out for a meal at a restaurant. I’d love to catch a movie or a play. I also fancy some shopping in the Village.

The debate over where to live became their biggest argument ever.

Eventually, they decided to relocate to Manhattan, and now, looking back, Bacon acknowledges that his wife’s suggestion was spot on.

He remarked, “That was absolutely brilliant!” Indeed, she had been spot-on. Nurturing our children in Manhattan turned out to be a splendid decision.

Reflecting on it now, he acknowledges that his decision turned out to be correct. As it turns out, everything he feared might not transpire, indeed came true – and she proved to be right once more.
