Kerry Katona recalls her mum giving her drugs when she was just 14 and admits ‘cocaine was her only friend’
At age 14, Kerry Katona remembered her mother administering drugs to her for the first time.
Previously from the band Atomic Kitten, a woman of 44 years, currently celebrating more than 15 years of sobriety, openly shared that cocaine once served as her sole companion.
Kerry explained that she perceived her mother’s love and care as being contained within a packet of cocaine, and she considered this to be the norm.
In an interview with OK! magazine this week, she mentioned: ‘My mom provided me with drugs when I was 14. Since she was my mother, I considered it ordinary. However, that’s a highly problematic form of mutual dependence.’
‘That was the most revolting flavor I’ve ever encountered, but I quickly grew accustomed to the euphoria it provided. Cocaine was my constant companion throughout those times.’

Kerry went on to say, “I felt utterly hopeless. It seemed as though my mother’s love and care were locked away in a cocaine stash. Isn’t that unnatural and harmful?
She reminisced about the turning point in her life, when she no longer wished to be the same person, following the incident where she unveiled a concealed stash of cocaine to her mother.
Kerry checked herself into rehab in 2008 and again in 2010 and has been sober ever since.
Previously battling addiction involving cocaine, it came to light last year that she underwent reconstructive surgeries as a means of repairing the harm inflicted on her body.
Last year, she displayed the outcomes of her surgery to the co-hosts of Good Morning Britain, Ranvir Singh and Richard Madeley. She revealed that it was her mother who initially introduced her to drugs during her teenage years.
In her conversation about her addiction, she shared: ‘Cocaine felt like a lifeline for me, it was more than just an acquaintance; it was my closest companion. It provided the strength I lacked at times when I needed it most.’
I didn’t have the habit of doing it every day; instead, I tended to indulge in sprees where I couldn’t resist continuing. Then, I might abstain for several months at a time. Ultimately, it seemed like a close companion due to the pressure from others using me excessively.
Admittedly struggling heavily at that moment, she confessed, “At one point I overdosed, but quickly regained consciousness and immediately consumed another dose of cocaine.

Kerry reminisced about the past: “At age 14, before I gained fame, I began experimenting with drugs. It was my mother who introduced me to my first dose of these substances.
Despite holding deep affection for her and expressing love, there have been challenging times in our relationship. My mother isn’t exactly the typical image of a mom, as she provided me with substances like sherbet and speed, which I assumed were common experiences.
She further explained that she has left her past behind, sharing: ‘My mother wasn’t in good health. What’s done is done; it’s a part of my history now. I choose not to dwell on regrets and resentment.’
‘I need to learn to tolerate people as they are. My mom is drug-free. However, for quite some time I found myself wallowing in self-pity, constantly complaining about my circumstances and blaming others for my problems.’
Occasionally, I ponder the outcome had I perished due to an overdose, similar to how my late husband George did. Contemplating the suffering and embarrassment that it would have caused my loved ones is too heavy to consider.
