Keri Russell’s Rise of the Skywalker character deserves to lead her own spinoff movie

There’s a lot of chatter about what lies ahead for the Star Wars movie series, with fans debating whether characters from the sequel trilogy might make an appearance in future cameos or standalone films. Actors like Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac have been at the center of much discussion as well, leaving fans eagerly waiting to see what’s next.

In the last movie of the Star Wars saga, titled “The Rise of Skywalker,” Keri Russell portrays Zori Bliss, a spice smuggler who once worked with the primary character, Poe Dameron. Prior to her role in this film, she was associated with him.

The character was enveloped in an air of enigma, sporting a chilled demeanor and aesthetic, yet exhibiting human emotions and emerging as one of the leading characters towards the movie’s conclusion. Russell further deepened this enigmatic persona while providing limited screen time for the actress to show her eyes. Moreover, she built a robust connection with Isaac, who portrayed Dameron in the subsequent trilogy.

Combining these two characters might prove advantageous for their development if they’re aiming to advance their respective stories. Nevertheless, I have a feeling that Russell would excel more as the primary character, while Isaac could take on a secondary or guest appearance role instead.

The franchise should transition beyond the Skywalker saga, and much like the movie “Starfighter” starring Ryan Gosling, having Zori Bliss lead the spice runners could represent a similar shift in focus.

In her own movie, Zori’s costume from “The Rise of Skywalker” would surely catch the eye. Before the film’s release, Vanity Fair commented on Zorri Bliss’s outfit, noting that the brass accents and deep purple hue evoke the elegance of Admiral Holdo (played by Laura Dern), while the shape of the costume resembles the iconic silhouette of Boba Fett, the bounty hunter.

On screen, Russell has showcased her charisma not only during her tenure with the movie franchise but also in the popular Netflix series, “The Diplomat“. Her captivating presence is potent enough to sustain an entire film, even within the expansive Star Wars universe.

In The Rise of Skywalker, Zori Bliss casually remarks to Rey (Ridley), “You might not show it, but I believe you’re alright,” to which Rey replies straightforwardly, “I do care.

Enthusiasts of Star Wars cherish every aspect of the series, so providing Zori with a movie could stir up her curiosity to explore further the enigma and power that Russell showcased in “The Rise of Skywalker”.
