Kenny Chesney Wants His Money Back From Taylor Swift
Kenny Chesney has been a supporter of Taylor Swift since her early days in the music business.
2007 saw Swift, aged 35 at the time, allegedly in discussions with Shanghai officials about potential future shows. Originally scheduled as an opening act for his Flip Flop Summer Tour, these plans were altered when a beer company became a sponsor. As a result, the singer of She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy, then 56 years old, was forced to remove the performer of Our Song from the tour lineup.
Chesney gave the then 17-year-old artist a generous severance to make up for the disappointment.
He shared that he felt really sorry because she was going to lose some money, and he expressed this on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last Thursday. His intention was to compensate for her loss.
In her interview for Time’s 2023 Person of the Year, the singer of “The Cruel Summer” discussed that specific act of kindness she had performed.
The singer confided that he needed to contact Taylor and inform her she couldn’t join me on tour,” he shared, continued, “which sounds rather strange now, doesn’t it?” He hinted at the irony by alluding to Swift’s numerous platinum albums and the massive $2 billion earnings from her recent Eras tour.
He explained, “You see, I was feeling really bad, so I told you this because it turns out you were about to lose some money. I ended up giving you a particular sum of money instead.
‘It was quite a bit of money…. because I wanted to make it up to her, right.’
2009 saw both of them nominated for the CMA Entertainer of the Year. He elaborated, “That’s how incredibly popular she was.” He further added, “And guess who took home the award? She did.
During their backstage encounter, the Summertime singer playfully requested a refund after meeting the other person.
‘I went up to her and gave her a big hug. I said, “Congratulations, but give me my money back.”‘
When Fallon inquired about it, Chesney replied, “Yes, I sensed she possessed a special talent.
It was clear to me that she possessed an extraordinary determination and remarkable talent for songwriting. At the time, however, it wasn’t widely recognized that someone could impact the world as profoundly as Taylor Swift would eventually do.
Chesney has signed on to begin a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas beginning in May.
The hitmaker stated, “I’ve never completed a residency in Las Vegas, but this presents a completely new, distinct experience for me.
The Billboard Music Award recipient expressed that the venue would provide a special, collective experience for both him and the spectators, despite the fact that he hasn’t had a chance to watch a performance there yet.
‘We’re already in rehearsals. We’re going to be rehearsing. It’s a lot to put together.’
As a lifestyle aficionado, I’m thrilled to share that, based on Cheney’s recent social media updates, tickets for an upcoming event will be available for purchase next week! The inaugural performances are scheduled to kick off over the Memorial Day weekend. Stay tuned for more details!
