Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ has already won multiple Grammys
2024 saw Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” as its unofficial anthem after its release in May, and it recently added a Grammy Award to its accolades.
In a dramatic turn of events, the diss song directed at Drake climbed up Billboard’s singles charts, making Lamar the undisputed winner in the ongoing artistic rivalry between the two musicians. Lamar has managed to earn double Grammy nominations for his work in not one but two categories, with the controversial track “Like That” by Future and Metro Boomin contributing significantly. This track, released in March, saw Lamar expressing his disagreement with the notion that he, Drake, and J. Cole were peers. This idea was initially suggested by Cole in a verse from Drake’s 2023 song “First Person Shooter.

Over the weekend, it seemed like the conflict between the two prominent hip-hop artists reached its peak. How might this affect their professional paths in the future?
Lamar received nominations across five categories for his song “Not Like Us”: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video.
At the Grammy Premier Awards on a sunny Sunday afternoon, my favorite track bagged trophies for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video!
In a surprising turn of events, Lamar and his song “Not Like Us” emerged victorious in the rap category, outshining numerous other artists, including Lamar himself. Additionally, he received a nomination for his collaboration with Future and Metro Boomin on “Like That.” GloRilla, Rapsody working with Hit-Boy, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign under their joint artist name ¥$, and Rich the Kid alongside Playboi Carti were also among those recognized in nominations.
In a notable victory, Lamar triumphed over Eminem, Common, Pete Rock, and Posdnuos to secure the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. In another category, Lamar was recognized alongside his collaborators Future and Metro Boomin for “Like That.” Eminem’s nomination was for “Houdini”; Common, Pete Rock, and Posdnuos were nominated for “When the Sun Shines Again”; Cardi B was recognized for “Enough (Miami)”; while newcomers GloRilla and Doechii earned nods for their tracks titled “Yeah Glo!” and “Nissan Altima,” respectively.
In the music video he filmed in his birthplace Compton, Lamar won a Grammy award for Best Music Video. Rap artists Eminem and ASAP Rocky were also recognized with nominations for their videos “Houdini” and “Tailor Swif.” Notably, Taylor Swift herself was nominated alongside Charli XCX, for her videos “Fortnight” and “360,” respectively.
Prior to this coming Sunday, Lamar had already amassed 17 Grammy Awards. The artist is getting ready for his Super Bowl halftime performance, which is only a week away. It remains undecided if he’ll perform “Not Like Us” during the Super Bowl, but his five consecutive performances of the song at the Kia Forum could hint towards it – each performance was met with thunderous applause.
