Kendra Duggar, married to Joseph Duggar from the show 19 Kids and Counting, is taking steps to protect herself after both were arrested in Arkansas on March 18th and 20th. They each face four misdemeanor charges related to unlawfully restricting someone’s freedom and putting a child at risk.
The 27-year-old woman, who stays at home, informed the 31-year-old real estate agent – who was still in jail – that she would be hiring her own attorney before their first court date on April 29th.
Duggar, who was born Caldwell, told Joseph during a phone call from jail that she has hired Travis Story as her lawyer, according to People magazine.
I wasn’t sure if you were aware, but I’ve hired him as my lawyer. This is just for my legal matters, not anything involving you.
Originally from Virginia, she posted a $1,470 bond just 90 minutes after being booked on March 20th, and then left with her four children – Garrett, seven; Addison, six; Brooklyn, five; and Justus, three – to a private, secluded home.
Last Friday, Jim Bob Duggar’s seventh child was supposed to be sent to Bay County, Florida, to face legal proceedings, but it’s currently unclear where he is.
In addition to the eight misdemeanor charges shared with his wife, Joseph faces two felony charges related to an alleged incident in Florida in 2020 involving inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor.
According to TMZ, a man who was homeschooled and identifies as Christian confessed to having inappropriate intentions towards a girl when she was nine years old. The incident allegedly occurred during a family vacation to Panama City Beach, and involved him touching her underwear and genitals. He admitted this to both the girl’s father and a detective in a phone conversation on March 17th.
The Duggar Family released a statement saying Jim Bob and Michelle are deeply saddened by everything that has happened.
Currently, their priority is supporting their family and assisting Kendra and her children through this challenging period. They are keeping the victim in their thoughts and prayers, and they respectfully request privacy while gratefully acknowledging the outpouring of support and prayers they’ve received.
Justin and Claire Spruill first connected in March 2017 at Lighthouse Baptist Church when Claire was 18. They quickly got engaged in May of that year and married in September.
Although some members of the Duggar family have criticized Joseph following his arrest, his older brother Josh, who is currently in prison, maintains his innocence.
‘Josh understands the stigma of being accused,’ his attorney told the Daily Mail.
He’s deeply affected by the devastating impact false accusations can have on someone’s life. He also knows how easily a person can be targeted and misrepresented in the media, turning facts into exaggerated stories.
The lawyer stated that the brothers don’t talk often, but Josh is wishing his brother all the best and hoping he gets through this tough period.
A 37-year-old man convicted of a sex offense is currently in prison at FCI Seagoville in Dallas, Texas, serving a 12-year sentence. He could be released as early as October 2, 2032.
Josh was found guilty of intentionally possessing child pornography, including a disturbing video by murderer Peter Scully that showed the sexual abuse and torture of three young girls, one of whom was just 18 months old.

And then, on top of that, the Ashley Madison scandal? Finding out he was cheating on Anna with people on that app? It completely shattered my world. I just… I can’t get past it, even now.
After allegations of sexual abuse against Josh Duggar became public, TLC canceled his family’s reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, which had run for 10 seasons.
The father of seven, once a prominent figure among Republican leaders, also had to step down from his job as head of the Family Research Council after facing public criticism.
