Kelsey Grammer’s daughter Greer, 33, hits back at nepo baby label as she details their 11-year estrangement

Kelsey Grammer’s daughter, Greer Grammer, is responding to accusations that she benefited from having a famous father, explaining that she actually grew up largely separated from him.

At 33, Greer is building a successful acting career with appearances in shows like MTV’s Awkward, The Goldbergs, and the Netflix film Deadly Illusions.

Growing up, she participated in beauty pageants and even won Miss Teen Malibu in 2008. More recently, she acted with her father in the second season of the new Frasier series.

But she insists her resume has nothing to do with family ties. 

In fact, she says those ties barely existed.

She recently shared on the Pretty Basic podcast that a common misunderstanding about her life is that she didn’t meet her father until she was sixteen, and she often finds it difficult to discuss this part of her story without sharing a lot of personal details.

Kelsey’s parents, including her mother, stylist Barrie Buckner, separated when Kelsey was very young, and this marked the start of a growing distance between them.

She explained that her father left when she was four years old and she didn’t see him again until she was sixteen. She did briefly see him once when she was eleven, but she ran away from him – it happened at a Blockbuster video store.

The real reunion didn’t come until a decade later, and it was pure chance.  

‘When I was 16, I ran into him at a Christmas tree lot,’ she recalled. 

He approached me and asked if I was Greer. I confirmed that I was. Then he started to introduce himself, but I interrupted, saying I already knew who he was – it was obvious.

Kelsey gave her his number, and they met for lunch a week later, starting a reconnection they’d both been wanting for a long time.

Still, Greer says she has flashes of memory from before he ‘left.’

She recalled attending a performance of Frasier once, but added with a laugh, ‘I think my mom had to take me out because I was being too noisy.’

She remembered him being at her preschool performance of The Wizard of Oz, and they’ve often reminisced about it since then.

She described the memories as very clear and detailed. She could picture them perfectly when she focused on them, but they faded quickly after that, leaving her unsure of what happened next.

Even now, she says she’s still untangling the emotional fallout of their estrangement in therapy. 

Grammer recalled his therapist asking him about realizing his father was no longer in his life, and whether his mother had ever had a conversation with him about it.

I told her I disagreed. She suggested I ask someone else, but I refused, explaining I suspected I had blocked the memory for a reason.

Since reuniting, father and daughter have been seen out and about together on numerous occasions.

Greer also got to act alongside Peri Gilpin in the new Frasier series. She played Alice, the grown-up daughter of Roz Doyle, Frasier’s old co-host on the radio show.

Meanwhile, Kelsey welcomed his eighth child this year with his fourth wife, Kayte Walsh, 46. 

The couple, who have been married for 14 years, are already parents to three children: 13-year-old Faith, 11-year-old Kelsey Gabriel, and 8-year-old Auden James.

Grammer first encountered the British woman in 2009 when she was a flight attendant on one of his flights to London.

Kelsey became a father in 1983 when his daughter, Spencer, was born. Spencer is now 42 years old and the result of Kelsey’s brief two-year marriage to his first wife, Doreen Alderman.

He went on to have two children – a daughter named Mason, who is now 24, and a son named Jude, age 21 – with his third wife, Camille Meyer. They were married for 13 years before divorcing in 2011.
