As an ardent fan who has followed Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos‘ love story since their early days on All My Children, I must say, their recent on-air exchange about gray divorce left me both intrigued and amused. It’s not often we get a glimpse into the private lives of our favorite celebrities, especially when it comes to such sensitive topics as marital discord.

Kelly Ripa caught viewers’ attention on Live with Kelly and Mark when she discussed her impending divorce during the show.

In a surprising move, the host of the talk show (who is 54 years old) brought up a contentious subject that left both her fellow host and husband, Mark Consuelos (age 53), in astonishment.

Initially, Kelly brought up that she had come across an intriguing magazine piece discussing the rising trend of divorces referred to as ‘gray divorces’, which pertains to those occurring among individuals aged fifty and above.

‘I was talking to Mark about it and Mark got very defensive,’ she explained.

Mark responded, ‘You came home from the trip and you were like, “I read this amazing article!”‘

Later on, Kelly playfully commented that the style of the article gave her a desire to opt for a ‘grey’ separation as well.

The awkward exchange divided viewers, with one writing, ‘She used the article to make him feel insecure. That can work two ways. The guy clings or he walks out of the door. Risky business.’

Another added, ‘Some truth in every joke and he looks nervous.’

One person commented, ‘It’s terrible for many of us who’ve experienced it, but it seems effortless for her to make light-hearted jokes about getting a divorce at an older age.’

However, one viewer had praise for the couple, writing, ‘I like them together, they are relatable.’

In 1994, Kelly and Mark crossed paths for the first time during Mark’s audition for the daytime drama “All My Children.” This encounter played a significant role in kick-starting their respective careers.

On the first day of May in 1996, they secretly got married in Las Vegas and have remained a couple ever since, expanding their family with the arrival of three kids.

Last year, Mark shared with the digital lifestyle publication Mr Feelgood his advice: ‘Look for a person who you enjoy strolling along the beach, discussing future aspirations and personal desires.’

Back when we were 24, we engaged in this activity, and we continue to do so today. It brings us such joy to think about doing it again.” (The Hollywood heartthrob expressed.)

Mark shared, “I can’t imagine ever growing tired of doing what we do and envisioning new possibilities for it. Lately, there are discussions about grandchildren, and our goal is to become their favorite grandparents. To achieve that, we’re creating an environment where they will be drawn to us – in other words, becoming the magnetic grandparents.

Each of the three kids that Mark and Kelly have together are now adults. Michael is 26 years old, Lola turns 22 soon, and Joaquin is already 20.

Mark remarked that it’s through such discussions about their future plans that they truly strengthen their bond,” or

Though I’m fully aware that I can be quite bothersome, and she has an incredible amount of patience, it’s clear that this trait of hers plays a significant role in our relationship,” he went on to say.

‘While ‘allegiance’ might not fully convey it, I can assure you that she stands by me, and I want her to be certain that I stand by her too.’

Gray divorce refers to a term used by the American Association of Retired Persons in 2004. This term describes an increase in the number of divorces among individuals aged 50 and older. In fact, data from CNBC reveals that 36% of those who divorced in 2019 were over the age of 50.
