Kelly Brook sells her beloved Hermès Birkin for a HUGE profit amid her fears the designer bag could make her a target for criminals in London

Kelly Brook explained she sold her expensive Hermès Birkin bag because she worried it might attract criminals while she was in London.

The 46-year-old former model said she made five times her money back on the designer handbag, a well-known and expensive status symbol in the fashion world.

She recently sold her Birkin bag for roughly five times its original price. She described it as a beautiful bag, adding that she’d enjoyed owning and using it before deciding to sell.

Kelly explained she was driven to sell the item – which can cost anywhere from £10,000 to hundreds of thousands of pounds – because she feared for her safety.

She explained that, living in London, she’s aware of the risk of having her belongings targeted, as bag thefts are common.

I used to buy expensive designer items and jewelry, but now I’m very cautious with my money and rarely purchase things like that anymore – in fact, I don’t really own much of it now.

Last year, the Daily Mail published an interactive map showing which areas in England and Wales had the most burglaries, breaking down the data by over 36,000 neighborhoods.

The most significant issues were found on streets in London’s wealthy Mayfair and parts of Soho, where homes are worth millions of pounds.

The area around Regent Street, well-known for its many shops and restaurants, experienced 282 burglaries.

Even wealthier parts of the city aren’t immune to muggings. Police received 508 reports in the year ending June 2025 from an area including Oxford Street and Shaftesbury Avenue.

During the same period, police recorded another 499 robberies targeting people in areas like Regent Street, New Bond Street, and parts of Oxford Street.

Kelly once shared a story about selling a designer bag she’d bought when she was younger for a significant profit. She jokingly admitted she’d even gotten sick inside it at some point, but that didn’t affect its value!

During a conversation on her Heart radio show with Jason King in 2023, she shared that she used to be much more focused on fashion and designer brands when she was younger, which she felt was typical for that age.

Years ago, I bought a really expensive handbag. I told my friend JK how much it cost, and he was shocked that I’d spend so much on it.

 

She later shared that she sold the bag after fifteen years, proudly stating that its value had increased four times over. She described it as a very successful investment.

She shocked potential buyers when she revealed she’d actually been sick in the bag a few times during nights out. She admitted she hadn’t mentioned this detail in the online listing.

Kelly spoke out only a week after a famous fashion designer, known for dressing Hollywood stars, was robbed of his extremely rare £2 million Richard Mille watch in the Mayfair area of London.

Younes Djoudim, a 33-year-old man from Slough, Berkshire, has been accused of theft. He appeared in Westminster Magistrates Court on Saturday and was held in custody.

Kirk Holdrick, a 43-year-old career criminal, was part of a two-person team that broke into a wealthy home in February 2023. The break-in may have specifically targeted the home’s owner, an actress.

Anya’s husband, Malcolm McRae, faced the people breaking in, and then he and Anya, 29, locked themselves safely in a bedroom.

Holdrick and another person were trying to force their way into the bedroom with a crowbar, but the only thing the homeowner had to defend themselves was a lamp.

Malcolm frightened the burglars away by yelling, ‘I have a gun!’ They, along with his accomplice, quickly ran off without stealing anything.

Prosecutors think the burglars weren’t just after valuables. The fact that they specifically tried to force their way into the bedroom suggests they were targeting Anya directly.

In 2005, Holdrick received a life sentence for robbing a cash transport van and a jewelry store at gunpoint.

It’s a stark reminder of the importance of home security and vigilance.

Holdrick received an additional three years in prison for the break-in that affected Anya and Malcolm.
