Kelley Mack, ‘The Walking Dead’ and Dr Pepper ‘Fansville’ actor, dies of cancer at 33

33-year-old actress Kelley Mack, known for her role as Addy in ‘The Walking Dead‘ Season 9, as well as appearing in national TV ads and providing voiceovers, passed away according to a statement made by her family on social media.

With deep sorrow, we share the news that our beloved Kelley has departed from us. Her radiant and passionate spirit now shines in another realm, which is the destination for all of us someday,” the family shared on Instagram on Tuesday. According to a notice on her CaringBridge page, she passed away in Cincinnati following a fight against glioma of the central nervous system.

On a tranquil Saturday evening, Kelley breathed her last, surrounded by her cherished mother Kristen and devoted aunt Karen. It’s been noted that already, Kelley has appeared in the guise of numerous butterflies to those who loved her dearly… Her absence will be felt profoundly, a void that no words can fully capture.

As Mack (formerly Kelley Lynne Klebenow), I was brought up in various towns across Ohio, Missouri, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Illinois before making my way to the bright lights of Los Angeles in 2014. My journey took me there after I earned a degree in cinematography from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film in Orange. As a cinephile at heart, this city has been my canvas for storytelling ever since.

In her professional portfolio, she starred as Becky in Dr Pepper’s “Fansville” commercials and lent her voice to advertisements for Hyundai Ioniq, Budweiser, Credit Karma, and other brands. On the television series “The Walking Dead,” she portrayed Addy, a Hilltop resident who harbored feelings for Henry, while he reciprocated affections towards Lydia. Tragically, Addy’s reanimated head was displayed on a pike at the border of the Whisperers’ territory, alongside those of Henry and other brave individuals who were captured by Alpha and subsequently failed in their efforts to escape after a valiant struggle.

Following an unpleasant back and leg pain in autumn, Mack was diagnosed in late November with a peculiar form of astrocytoma known as diffuse midline glioma, which is a rare cancer originating from the central nervous system. On Instagram in January, she shared that due to a biopsy surgery on her spinal cord, she now moves around using a walker and wheelchair, having lost most mobility in her right leg and much of her left.

By March, she managed to regain some walking capacity, although she still struggled with persistent discomfort in her lower body.

She expressed on CaringBridge in April that certain days can be tough, detailing the various healthy strategies she’s implementing with her family’s assistance. “We experience moments of emotional strain,” she admitted, “but we remind one another of our resilience and optimism. We maintain faith in our journey, our belief in a higher power, and our deep affection for each other, which helps us push through.

By July, Mack had started receiving palliative care, a phase that proved to be the most challenging aspect of her journey.

She is left behind by her parents Kristen and Lindsay Klebenow, her sister Katherine, brother Parker, grandparents Lois and Larry Klebenow, and her partner, Logan Lanier. A life celebration will take place on the 16th of August in Glendale, Ohio, with another to follow at a later date in Los Angeles.
