Keke Palmer claims costar made a racist remark to her on Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens series

Keke Palmer claims costar made a racist remark to her on Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens series

In my humble opinion, Keke Palmer has had quite the journey in Hollywood, facing challenges and overcoming them with grace and resilience. Her experiences on the set of Scream Queens, particularly with Ryan Murphy, highlight the power dynamics that often exist in the industry. It’s heartening to see her standing up for herself and asserting her worth as a businesswoman, even when it might seem like she’s facing an uphill battle.

Keke Palmer claims a distressing racially charged event transpired during the filming of her Fox show, Scream Queens.

As a devoted follower, I eagerly anticipate the release of my upcoming memoir titled “Master Of Me: The Key to Shaping My Story.” In this book, at the tender age of 31, I recount an encounter with a fellow actor, known by a pseudonym in the media reports, as shared by the Los Angeles Times.

The unnamed actress allegedly compared Keke to Martin Luther King Jr. during a tense exchange.

In other parts of her memoir, Palmer, fresh from donning a fat suit for her recent work, shares an account where Ryan Murphy, the joint creator and producer of Scream Queens, accused her of acting unprofessionally.

We have contacted the representatives of Murphy and Fox Broadcasting to ask for their response or statement regarding this matter.

From 2015 to 2016, when Palmer starred in a series that ran for two seasons on Fox, appears to have been quite challenging, as suggested by her book and recent profile.

She headlined the horror-comedy alongside several well-known actresses such as Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Billie Lourd, and Jamie Lee Curtis. For one season, Nasim Pedrad, Kirstie Alley, Ariana Grande, and Cecily Strong also appeared on the show.

The text indicates that ‘Brenda’, who is an actress, had a disagreement with another coworker that made her feel upset on the filming location one particular day.

Yet, when Palmer attempted to comfort her co-star by expressing hope for everyone on the set to “enjoy themselves while also showing respect,” Brenda reacted sharply instead.

The unidentified actress is reported to have responded, “Keke, figuratively, please refrain. Do you believe yourself to be akin to Martin Luther King?

In her book, Palmer chose not to identify the woman by name, believing that doing so would strip her speech of its impact and shift the focus away from Brenda as the main subject of conversation.

In my perspective as a lifestyle guide, let me clarify: I’m not someone who wallows in victimhood. That’s not the script of my life, darling. I choose not to be swayed by her words. If I were to let her comments bring me down, then she would have succeeded in doing so. This is the assertion I made, standing firm in my convictions.

It was ironic that the remark linking her to Martin Luther King Jr. was made, since Palmer’s parents encouraged her to emulate Dr. King when she faced microaggressions as a kindergartener at a private Catholic school during the Civil Rights Movement era.

In Palmer’s book, another event was detailed that featured Murphy, a key contributor to the series along with his consistent partners Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. This man not only played a role in its creation but also handled production, scriptwriting, and direction for specific episodes.

Instead of her planned day off, she had scheduled a yet-to-be-defined business commitment on the days when she would typically be filming Scream Queens.

Later on, Palmer was informed by team members from the show that her shooting schedule had been changed, which meant she would have to work on a day that was originally her day off.

Rather than going through with her plans, she decided to forgo the filming day and attend to a previous commitment instead. It’s uncertain whether she informed the production team about this change in schedule.

It is said that Murphy was displeased by her being away, and she claimed he criticized her harshly about her actions when he contacted her.

She told the Los Angeles Times, “It felt somewhat similar to being in the dean’s office,” she explained. “He expressed his surprise, saying, ‘I’ve never seen you act this way before. I can hardly believe that it was you, of all people, who would do something like this.’

Initially, Palmer believed she had made amends with the TV producer, but after a few days, she discussed the issue with one of her co-stars who held a less optimistic view about the dispute.

Following her statement that she believed herself and Murphy were “friendly,” her co-star expressed that the situation remained “difficult.” Palmer perceived this as an effort to dissuade or caution her.

In the world of Hollywood productions, it’s common knowledge that long workdays are the norm. Actors and crew members often find themselves working between 10 to 12 hours daily, with some filming sessions stretching up to 14 or even 16 hours on a single day. Moreover, these shooting schedules can be unpredictable, and rescheduling days is not an unusual occurrence.

As I found myself immersed in the vibrant world of “Scream Queens,” I couldn’t help but harbor dreams of becoming a recurring player in Ryan Murphy’s extraordinary ensemble, much like the brilliant Emma Roberts, the captivating Sarah Paulson, the legendary Jessica Lange, and the charismatic Billie Lourd.

After she chose to prioritize other duties over the new filming date, she became concerned that Murphy might have stopped considering her for future roles, but it’s uncertain whether their disagreement took place during the initial or subsequent season of Scream Queens.

In her book, Palmer expressed that she wasn’t certain if Ryan truly understood or empathized with the situation, but that was alright because his focus was on his business. This isn’t an issue for me. However, what is clear to me is, even if he didn’t care and we never collaborate again, he is aware that I also view myself as a businessperson.

Murphy, via his publicist, declined a request for comment from the LA Times.

Palmer’s personal development memoir, “Master Of Me: Unlocking the Power of Personal Storytelling,” is set to be released on store shelves on November 19.
