Keira Knightley and Guy Pearce’s new movie The Lady in Cabin 10 leaves local residents TERRIFIED as they film ‘flipping loud’ fireworks display on a superyacht in Dorset: ‘We thought the Russian’s were coming!’
As a lifelong resident of Portland Harbour, Dorset, I’ve seen my fair share of fireworks displays – from the local carnival to the occasional private party on yachts. However, none have ever come close to the spectacle put on by the crew and actors of The Woman in Cabin 10.
As a die-hard admirer, I’ve been left in awe (and slightly ruffled) by the dazzling spectacle created by none other than Keira Knightley and Guy Pearce! Their exhilarating fireworks display, an integral part of their latest Netflix production, has sent shockwaves through a tranquil coastal community.
The team and performers were filming scenes for the movie titled “The Woman in Cabin 10” while moored aboard a lavish yacht within the Portland Harbor, located in Dorset.
Despite an earlier alert given to residents about a sequence of five-minute firework shows, numerous locals were frustrated due to the extended noise that lasted for nearly three hours.
As a devoted observer, I noticed that the display sparked quite a few complaints due to its intense volume, which seemed to disrupt the sleep of several children and spooked many pets. In fact, some people went as far as saying it resembled the onset of a conflict.
One resident said: ‘Would have been good to have been warned. Our windows rattled on first blast and our young dog is petrified…Does no one think of the animals?’
While another explained she had a dog having a meltdown and a herd of frightened horses.
A third individual remarked: ‘It was too noisy and kept waking me up late at night. I thought they had finished, but then it started all over again.’
Some said the bangs were ‘rattling my windows’, saying: ‘I thought we were being bombed’ and ‘I thought the Russians are coming’.
But one resident said: ‘It’s time all the haters get a grip on their lives. This has brought thousands of pounds into the local area. There has been notices issued.
If this were an ordinary fireworks show along the coast of Weymouth, everyone would undoubtedly be overjoyed. Given that it’s a film set, I’d wager it surpasses any display the local council could organize.
The movie, classified as a thriller, derives its plot from the top-selling book of the identical title penned by Ruth Ware. In this production, Knightley assumes the role of a travel writer embarking on a voyage by sea. During this journey, she witnesses a murder; however, her account is met with disbelief by everyone around her.
Over the past few weeks, a famous group of actors such as Knightley, Pearce, and Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso have been shooting scenes near the bay.
Dorset Council has collaborated with production companies, expressing their eagerness to attract movie crews to the region.
A representative stated: “Dorset Council is eager to assist the creative sectors by providing a film-friendly ambiance, and they warmly welcome proposals from production companies aiming to shoot in that region.
‘We encourage film and high-end TV productions to consider Dorset because we recognise the benefits these projects can bring the wider economy, boosting tourism and hospitality, generating income for local people and businesses.
In simple terms, our Dorset film crew assists in securing filming permits for Dorset Council-owned sites, while our local teams at the country parks, harbors, and properties contribute operationally by providing local insights and expertise during filming.
