Kehlani granted temporary restraining order against ex-boyfriend amid custody battle

As a long-time fan of Kehlani and her powerful music, I have always admired her strength and resilience. The recent events unfolding in her personal life are deeply concerning, but they also shed light on the struggles many celebrities face behind the scenes. In this instance, it appears that Kehlani is taking a stand against an abusive ex-partner to protect herself and their daughter.

In my own words, I’m sharing that I’ve recently secured a temporary protective measure against my ex, Javaughn Young-White, due to some turbulent custody proceedings regarding our five-year-old daughter. The court documents unveil the allegations we’ve exchanged in this heated legal dispute.

On a Friday, the “After Hours” singer submitted her plea in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, which came two weeks following Young-White’s filing of a petition seeking full custody over their shared daughter.

At a Sept. 3 hearing, the restraining order against Young-White will expire, as stated in documents examined by The Times. This order prevents him from reaching out to his ex or their daughter through phone calls, emails, or any other means. He is also required to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from Kehlani (the girl) and both her school and childcare facility.

Kehlani retains full physical and legal custody for the duration of the court-granted order.

Kehlani stated in a recent submission that she urgently needs a ruling, and she claimed that Young-White has been abusive towards her – both physically, verbally, and emotionally.

Twice Grammy-nominated artist mentioned an occurrence where Young-White is alleged to have lost temper and hurled a guitar at her during her pregnancy. Later on, she asserted, Young-White expressed feeling trapped by their daughter’s birth, claiming that she had “spoiled” his life.

In a state of agitation, he becomes restless, can’t seem to stay still, raises his arms, shouts, and screams at me. He also tends to hurl objects and use offensive language towards me, which is distressing. This behavior is frightening for me, and I believe it could be very unsettling for a young child as well.

In addition, Kehlani claimed that Young-White frequently uses marijuana and psychedelics for self-treatment, often doing so in the presence of his daughter.

In light of accusations of past abuse against Young-White, Commissioner Jeffrey W. Korn issued a court order stating there was a potential danger of child abduction in the case. Consequently, Young-White is not allowed to travel with his daughter beyond Los Angeles County, nor can he apply for passports or any travel-related documents. Additionally, he is prohibited from owning or acquiring firearms and ammunition as per the conditions of the restraining order.

In a custody complaint filed on July 24 and reviewed by The Times, Young-White asserted that Kehlani has been connected with a “cult” for several years. According to him, this cult dictates Kehlani’s actions and behavior, even influencing decisions regarding their shared daughter. On one instance, he stated that the leader of this cult convinced Kehlani to keep their child away from her father based on a supposed “vision.”

“But following the cult leader’s ‘vision’ from the Respondent, suggesting I should kill our daughter, the Respondent instead gave our child to unknown strangers who were also part of the cult,” he stated.

As a movie buff, I’d rephrase that as: Kehlani gave birth to our child at home, but the cult handled the arrangements. That’s why my name isn’t on the birth certificate – and she’s refused to include it. To add insult to injury, she won’t let me see the birth certificate or even our daughter’s Social Security number.

In Young-White’s court filing, he asked the judge to declare him as the father, give him sole custody of his daughter, and make Kehlani pay child support based on their significant income disparity. He further suggested that Kehlani should undergo a psychological evaluation, citing a past conversation where she mentioned being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

He stated, “I’m not criticizing the Respondent, but the atmosphere she has fostered is not suitable for a child. Given this, I humbly appeal to the court’s understanding and wisdom to safeguard my daughter before the situation worsens.”

Last week, Kehlani asserted in an expired Instagram post that she “vehemently refutes any allegations suggesting I endangered my child.”

On Thursday, neither Kehlani’s nor Young-White’s representatives responded promptly to The Times’ request for a statement.
