Okay, so I’m really excited about Osgood Perkins! Ever since his movie Longlegs came out in 2024, he’s become a huge name in horror – and for good reason! It was seriously one of the scariest and most original films I’ve seen in ages. It blended a lot of different horror styles, and it was amazing. Plus, Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage were perfect in it – Monroe as the ultimate scream queen and Cage just going totally wild! It’s a movie that’s really stuck with me.
Osgood Perkins’ new horror film, Keeper, cleverly mirrored the successful marketing strategy of his previous film, Longlegs, by revealing very little about the plot in its trailers. Throughout most of the movie, a sense of dark mystery prevails, created by Perkins’ atmospheric direction and deliberately slow, suspenseful pacing.
By the end of the film Keeper, viewers are fully invested in the mystery, making the surprising conclusion even more impactful. While reviews, as seen on Rotten Tomatoes, suggest it didn’t resonate with all audiences, the ending clearly showcases what makes director Osgood Perkins a unique filmmaker.
Osgood Perkins Is A Master Of Memorable Imagery

While Longlegs had a solid story and good rhythm, it was the haunting visuals that really made it stand out. Director Osgood Perkins expertly created disturbing images – from the unsettling appearance and death of the character Cage, to the violent crime scenes and subtle hints of the supernatural – that will stay with audiences long after the credits roll.
While Keeper likely won’t be as successful as Longlegs in terms of ticket sales or reviews, its wild ending features genuinely scary scenes that rival the most chilling images from Perkins’ earlier film. Keeper builds a sense of dread through the strange connection between Liz and Malcolm, but the true horror comes from the creatures that stalk Malcolm’s cabin.
The cabin and the woods around it are home to horrifying creatures, believed to be the descendants of a woman likely accused of witchcraft centuries ago. Malcolm keeps them alive by feeding them, and in return, he seems to live forever. Each creature is disturbingly unique and more frightening than the last.
The pale, screaming creature shown above is the first unsettling image in Keeper, but Perkins’ most impressive work in the film is a truly disturbing creature whose head is composed of the faces of the women Malcolm sacrificed. Although it appears in what some consider a less successful of Perkins’ projects, the image still showcases why his films consistently meet high expectations.
