Keanu Reeves teases “tortured” John Constantine in sequel update

In a recent development, actor Keanu Reeves shared some exciting news about the eagerly anticipated follow-up to the film ‘Constantine’. He hinted that the character of John Constantine, whom he portrays, will be depicted as tormented in this sequel.

Drawing inspiration from DC’s “Hellblazer” comics, the 2005 thriller centered around John Constantine, a world-weary exorcist who could traverse to and from hell, and had the unique ability to discern the actual forms of beings that were part angel and part demon.

2022 saw the news break about a new installment of the beloved film, with original star Keanu Reeves and director Francis Lawrence set to reprise their roles. Since then, information on the Constantine 2 project has been sparse, but recently, Reeves shared that work on the film is progressing nicely.

For more than a decade, I’ve been passionately working on bringing this movie to life. Not long ago, we managed to piece together an engaging story and presented it to DC Studios. To my delight, they agreed! Now, I’m excitedly embarking on the journey to pen down the script.

Despite not revealing details about the storyline, the actor affirmed that the follow-up film will be set within the same universe as the initial movie, implying that the hardships of his character will persist.

He assured us we wouldn’t go down that path, then playfully taunted: “John Constantine is in for even more torment.

Currently, Director Lawrence has shared some new information about the project, expressing to Collider: “I can confirm we are getting closer than ever to making a sequel, which is excellent news.

We’ve come up with an exciting concept! Over time, we’ve delved into many comic books and analyzed various aspects.

I’ll admit that much of what we’re creating seems like it could be derived from various sources, but in reality, most of it is born out of our shared affection for the character and the universe. Over the past two decades, thoughts about this project have been simmering in the back of our minds, bubbling with ideas, stories, characters, and concepts we adore.

There is currently no release date for the Constantine sequel.
