Keanu Reeves goes viral as he’s STRADDLED by Broadway star during Tony Awards 2025 performance
At the Tony Awards 2025, an unusually uncomfortable moment involving Keanu Reeves made headlines when he found himself sandwiched between a renowned figure from Broadway. The incident took place during a seemingly passionate performance that took place on Sunday night.
60-year-old Speed star found himself unexpectedly seated at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, as Jonathan Groff delivered an energetic performance of “Mack The Knife” from his Bobby Darin musical, Just In Time.
Nevertheless, in a surprising turn of events, Groff (who appeared alongside Reeves in the 2021 film The Matrix Resurrections) decided to perch on Reeves’ seat, with his legs straddling Reeves’ stunned face, while singing.
Startled, Reeves let out a loud scream, then performed a “rock on” gesture, all while Groff playfully patted him on the chest. In response, Groff leaped off the chair.
Audience members enthusiastically shared their excitement on social media about a surprising incident. One fan posted: “Jonathan Groff leaping over Keanu Reeves in the crowd, then sitting astride him during his Tony Awards performance! Oh my goodness, laughter ensues!
Others wrote: ‘Keanu Reeves already won the Tonys with this moment

Observing Jonathan Groff, with his captivating presence, gracefully projected onto the half of Keanu Reeves’ face during a live broadcast could possibly be my modern-day equivalent to witnessing the Roman Empire.
‘Jonathan Groff said he was going to shoot his shot with Keanu Reeves and I respect that.
I didn’t expect to see Jonathan Groff flirting and singing to Keanu Reeves at the Tonys, but I wholeheartedly approve of this unexpected turn of events.
Tonight, we’re celebrating the crème de la crème of theater at the 78th Annual Tony Awards, the premier event that highlights the exceptional talent on Broadway and beyond.
On this coming Sunday, June 8, the event will take place at the revered stage of Radio City Music Hall, located in New York City, and it’s being orchestrated by the three-time Academy Award nominee, Cynthia Erivo.
The three-hour program, airing at 8 p.m. Eastern Time and 5 p.m. Pacific Time, can be viewed live on CBS or streamed on Paramount+ with Showtime. If you’re a Paramount+ Essential subscriber, you can start watching the show the next day.
This year features major star power in the lead actor and actress categories.
George Clooney is vying for recognition as the leading actor in a play for his highly successful adaptation of “Good Night, And Good Luck,” a production he directed, co-wrote, and acted in, while acting icon Mia Farrow faces competition from Sarah Snook of Succession and Sadie Sink of Stranger Things in the category for leading actress in a play.

In terms of the lead actors in the musical category, Darren Criss and Jonathan Groff are bringing considerable stardom. On the other hand, Megan Hilty, Nicole Scherzinger, and Broadway icon Audra McDonald are some of the most renowned names in the lead actress in a musical category.
Known for his work on movies and TV shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Bob Odenkirk is now nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play, specifically for his role in the comeback of David Mamet’s renowned play Glengarry Glen Ross, a drama that portrays desperation.
This year, we have an impressive lineup of presenters such as Charli D’Amelio, Michelle Williams, Jean Smart from the show “Hacks”, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Lea Salonga. Each one of them is gracing the stages of Broadway right now.
1) Actress Kristin Chenoweth is set to make an appearance, in addition to that, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are planning a Bill and Ted reunion, prior to their rendition of Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting For Godot”. Glee alum Lea Michele will share the stage with Aaron Tveit as well.
2) Apart from Kristin Chenoweth gracing the stage, there will be a Bill and Ted reunion featuring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, before their staging of “Waiting For Godot” by Samuel Beckett. Lea Michele from Glee and Aaron Tveit are also slated to appear together on the same stage.

A number of past Tony Award recipients, such as Oprah Winfrey, Bryan Cranston, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sarah Paulson, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Kelli O’Hara, and Rachel Bay Jones, will be participating in the announcement of awards.
Furthermore, it’s important to note that the other presenters are not lacking in talent either. Many of them have prestigious awards like Oscars and Grammys under their belts. Among these accomplished individuals are Ben Stiller, Samuel L. Jackson, Katie Holmes, Jesse Eisenberg, Allison Janney, Ariana DeBose, Adam Lambert, Carrie Preston, Danielle Brooks, and Sara Bareilles.
As we approach the 2025 awards ceremony, three productions are currently in the front-runners with an impressive 10 nominations apiece: “Buena Vista Social Club”, “Death Becomes Her”, and “Maybe Happy”.
The Buena Vista Social Club is modeled after the famous Cuban band of the same title, who released a popular self-titled album in 1997 and were featured in the critically-acclaimed film directed by Wim Wenders (also titled “Buena Vista Social Club”) in 1999.
Death Becomes Her originates from the 1992 fantastical black comedy directed by Robert Zemeckis, featuring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and Bruce Willis in leading roles.

Contrary to musicals derived from pre-existing music or movies, “Maybe Happy” is a unique science fiction-romance that was born in South Korea. It narrates the story of two artificial helper-bots who unexpectedly fall in love, despite their limited lifespans casting uncertainty on any future prospects.
All productions, including “Dead Outlaw: John Proctor,” “Sunset Boulevard,” “The Blvd. of Sunset,” and “The Hills of California,” have received seven Tony Award nominations each. Meanwhile, “Floyd Collins,” “Justin in Time,” “Purpose,” and “The Picture of Dorian Gray” have all been nominated for six awards apiece.
In addition to Dead Outlaw and Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical, the following productions – English, The Hills of California, John Proctor is the Villain, Oh, Mary!, and Purpose – are all contenders in the Best Play category.
Purpose and English have already been honored with Pulitzer Prizes.

In 2025, the Tonys will pay homage to the past by presenting a special tribute to Hamilton, which marks its 10th anniversary. The original cast will come together for a memorable performance.
Miranda is set to have Miranda Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Daveed Diggs, Ariana DeBose, Jonathan Groff, and Christopher Jackson with her – these talented individuals were all members of the initial cast.

In her early days, Erivo, aged 38, predominantly gained recognition through her theater work. However, she subsequently flourished in both the film and TV industries as well.
The Controversial Actress, who has been making headlines due to her casting as the lead in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl in August, is nearly done securing the esteemed EGOT award following her wins at the Emmys, Grammys, and Tonys.
During her journey, she was also nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, two BAFTA Awards, and two SAG Awards.
Previously, she had a leading role on Broadway in the well-known version of The Color Purple. This opportunity later allowed her to sing the song “I’m Here” at the 2016 Tony Awards.
