HBO Max has announced when fans can stream the popular DC superhero film starring Keanu Reeves. Constantine will be available on the service next year, along with other titles.
I first saw this movie back in 2005, and it’s based on the ‘Hellblazer’ comics – though it takes a lot of liberties with the source material. It centers around this really cool, jaded guy who’s an expert in the occult – basically, he can see and talk to half-angels and half-demons. It’s a wild premise!
Constantine to stream on HBO Max next year
Keanu Reeves’s film, Constantine, will be available to stream on HBO Max starting January 1, 2026, according to How-To Geek.
The movie came out in 2005 and earned approximately $230.9 million globally, costing between $70 and $100 million to make. Of that amount, around $154 million came from international audiences.
Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a critic score of 46%, while audiences rated it higher at 72%. Metacritic assigned it a score of 50, meaning reviews were mixed, but users gave it a 7.4 out of 10, suggesting most people enjoyed it.
Francis Lawrence directed the movie Constantine, which was written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello. Brodbin also came up with the original story for the film. Lauren Shuler Donner, Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Erwin Stoff, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and Akiva Goldsman all served as producers.
As a huge fan of visual storytelling, I was really impressed with how Philippe Rousselot shot ‘Constantine’ – the cinematography was fantastic. The editing, handled by Wayne Wahrman, kept the pace moving perfectly. And the score! Brian Tyler and Klaus Badelt created a truly memorable soundtrack. Of course, Keanu Reeves leads a great cast, but Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Djimon Hounsou, Max Baker, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and so many others really brought the whole world to life.
The movie centers on John Constantine, who hunts demons and understands the occult. When LAPD detective Angela Dodson’s twin sister, Isabel, dies in what appears to be a suicide, Angela seeks Constantine’s help to uncover the truth.
A follow-up movie is said to be in the works. Earlier this year, Keanu Reeves told Inverse that he and the team presented the story idea to DC Studios, and it was given the green light. They were then planning to begin writing the script. Reeves didn’t share details about the plot, but hinted that Constantine would face even greater hardship in the sequel than he did in the original.
James Gunn, a co-CEO of DC Studios, mentioned on the BobaTalks podcast that he’d talked with Matt Reeves about a potential sequel, but hadn’t seen a script for it yet.
