Kayce Finds His Dutton Family Replacement While Monica’s Fate Remains Unclear In New Marshals Images

Recent photos from the upcoming series, Marshals, suggest a character is being developed to potentially take Kayce’s place within the Dutton family, while Monica’s location is currently unknown. Creator Taylor Sheridan will expand the Yellowstone universe with this first spinoff series in about a month. Starring Luke Grimes, Marshals continues Kayce’s story following the events of the original Yellowstone.

CBS has several spin-offs of Yellowstone coming soon, and Marshals is one of them. Unlike the others, Marshals will continue to be set on the Dutton ranch – the land that was returned to the Broken Rock Reservation. However, Marshals won’t follow the same style as Yellowstone. It will focus more on solving cases each episode, rather than a long, ongoing story.

I’m getting so excited for the Marshals premiere on March 1, 2026! CBS just dropped some new photos from the first couple of episodes, and they look amazing. It seems like Mo, Thomas Rainwater, and Kayce will be teaming up again in an episode called “Piya Wiconi.” We also get a glimpse of John III’s son riding with Pete Calvin – it’s cool to see them reconnecting after serving together. And there’s a striking image from “Zone of Death” showing Kayce with his new team: Miles, Andrea, Belle, and, of course, Calvin. I’ve included the photos below – check them out!

It’s notable that the show’s creators are keeping Monica’s location a secret. While promotional materials for the new Yellowstone sequel confirm Brecken Merrill will return as Tate Dutton, he wasn’t shown in those materials. Given that the new CBS series still takes place in the same world as the original, Monica’s ongoing absence is becoming more and more curious. So far, neither Taylor Sheridan nor anyone else connected with the show has offered an explanation.

Because the new show, Marshals, focuses less on family than Yellowstone did, Kayce’s team quickly becomes his closest support system – they’re likely to stand by him no matter what happens. While Jimmy (Forrie J. Smith) is a big draw for viewers, given his history on Yellowstone, it’s reasonable to expect Taylor Sheridan will also develop the other members of the team over time.

The new images were released after the show, formerly known as ‘Marshals Y,’ subtly updated its title. CBS says the name change was just to simplify things and wasn’t related to any changes in the show’s storyline. However, focusing the story on Kayce will always connect it to the ‘Yellowstone’ universe.
