The comedy thriller Adulthood, featuring Kaya Scodelario (known from Skins) and Josh Gad (Frozen), is now available for streaming in the UK with a Sky/NOW Cinema subscription. It was previously available to buy or rent.
The story centers on two siblings who find a dead body in their parents’ basement. As they try to solve the mystery – relying only on what they’ve learned from crime dramas on TV – the situation quickly gets out of control.
The movie, set to come out in 2025, features Billie Lourd from Booksmart and Anthony Carrigan known from Superman. Alex Winter, famous for Bill & Ted, will appear in the film and also take on the role of director.
The film has received generally positive reviews, with a 77% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a similar 76% rating from viewers.
The Associated Press praised the film as “darkly excellent,” highlighting a perfectly crafted black comedy with sharp satire from director Alex Winter and writer Michael MB Galvin. They also noted its satisfying ending, something many similar comedies struggle to achieve.

The Hollywood Reporter complimented the actors, describing Gad as perfectly embodying a man-child, Scodelario as believable as a stressed mother, and Carrigan as outstanding in a bizarre role, calling his character a mix of Uncle Fester and Freddy Krueger.
According to TheWrap, Carrigan delivers a standout performance. The publication also noted that while the film is surprisingly deep and thought-provoking, it sometimes struggles to fully define itself.
Despite some dramatic shifts in mood, the story ultimately works because these changes happen right when the characters are facing their biggest challenges.
RogerEbert.com’s review highlighted how the two main actors brilliantly enhanced each other’s unusual qualities, creating a truly frightening dynamic. The review also commended Christopher Mably’s cinematography and Sandy Pereira’s editing.
