Katy Perry’s comeback single Woman’s World misses Top 10 and debuts at No. 63 on the Billboard Chart… after singer held crisis talks to save album
As a seasoned music industry insider, I’ve seen my fair share of highs and lows in the realm of pop music. And let me tell you, Katy Perry’s latest album debacle has been a doozy.
The debut of Katy Perry’s return single, “Woman’s World,” on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart didn’t start off with much excitement.
As a devoted fan, I was hoping that the powerful anthem for women would make it into the Top 10 in its debut week. Sadly, it only managed to reach the 63rd spot on the charts during its initial tracking period.
The new pop hit song from the 39-year-old artist, set to be included in their seventh studio album titled “143,” entered the Global 200 chart at position 65 and the UK charts at position 47, according to Variety’s report.
In terms of streaming popularity, the track ranked number 110 on Spotify’s US chart and number 58 in the global chart.
After a steep decline on the US iTunes chart since its release on July 11, Katy’s album has been causing concern. Reports suggest that she is worried and urging her team to rethink their strategies in order to prevent a similar downward trend.
Her most recent solo single “Daisies” from her 2020 album “Smile” reached No. 40 on the Billboard chart but then declined in popularity after that point.
According to sources, Katy is being defensive and shifting blame towards others after her recent music video with Oscar Dorta resulted in a flop single. Insiders reveal that she is frantically working on a new strategy to salvage her musical return.
The first hit song from her forthcoming album, promoted as a powerful feminist message, was criticized as lacking originality, showing inconsistency, and following a predictable pattern.
The artist behind “Teenage Dream” was subjected to criticism for the sexually charged content of its music video and her collaboration with music producer Dr. Luke, who is 50 years old and previously had a high-profile legal dispute with singer Kesha, age 37.
An insider revealed to DailyMail.com that Katy is currently anxious due to the critical responses Woman’s World has received. She’s blaming others, but ultimately, she holds responsibility for the situation.
According to the report, the most significant risk Katy faced was reaching out to Dr. Luke once again – the music producer behind her popular hits like “I Kissed a Girl” (2008) and “California Gurls” (2010). However, he was later accused of sexual, physical, and emotional misconduct by Kesha.
Łukasz Gottwald, known as a super producer, refuted all accusations, including Kesha’s assertion that he had sexually assaulted Katy Perry. She had previously dismissed this claim.
In 2020, a judge based in New York made a ruling against Kesha, denying her claim that her former producer had been defamed. This decision was affirmed by an appellate court in the year following.
Critics of the hitmaker have strongly expressed their disapproval towards any artist collaborating with him since Kesha’s accusations in 2014, even though they came to an agreement in 2023.
As a dedicated follower of Katy, I’ve noticed some fans rallying to her defense, asserting that she had no choice but to collaborate with Dr. Luke because of binding contracts. However, Katy herself has clarified on multiple occasions that she holds no professional connection to the producer.
In my role as a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: Back in 2018, during a court deposition for Kesha’s lawsuit against Dr. Luke, I made it clear that our professional relationship was limited to a three-album publishing deal with his Kemosabe Records. We no longer have any contractual obligations binding us together.
I too considered the potential reaction of the public if I decided to work with Dr. Luke, given his ongoing legal issues with Kesha.
I’d be thrilled to work with him right now, but unfortunately, that might not go over so well due to this ongoing lawsuit.
When questioned about the possibility of collaborating with Dr. Luke on a future project, Miley Cyrus expressed her concerns by saying: “There would be protests, a smear campaign, and numerous negative stories instead of focusing on the music itself.”
Previously, DailyMail.com reported that Katy was advised against working with Dr. Luke on her upcoming album. However, a source has now confirmed that despite appeals, Katy went ahead and collaborated with him.
An insider commented, “It was foolish of her to consider Dr. Luke a good choice. She refused to heed others’ advice.” Regarding her latest work, the source added, “Instead of producing something fresh and innovative, it seemed like she merely resurrected an old album from 2010.”
The track not only featured Katy collaborating with a producer, but it was primarily penned by men as well.
Dr. Luke, Aaron Joseph, Vaughn Oliver, and Rocco collaborated on writing and producing the track. Katy and Chloe Angelides were the two women involved in penning the lyrics for the song.
Not a single woman produced the album.
‘You don’t make a song about female empowerment with basically all men,’ the source said.
Katy finds it difficult to connect with ordinary women due to her celebrity lifestyle. Her experience of being a woman is limited to her bubble in the limelight, thus unfamiliar with the everyday realities faced by women.
‘She is not using her star power to make change in the world – she is using it to make money.’
The unimpressive sales of Katy’s single were not improved by her seemingly defensive reactions to criticism about the song’s meaning in its accompanying video.
She explained in a lighthearted moment caught on camera, “We’re merely poking fun and being a tad sarcastic.” The scene was filled with physical comedy and straightforward humor.
I’ve noticed a trend in media that leaves me feeling both intrigued and frustrated in equal measure. There are certain productions that claim to challenge the male gaze but end up perpetuating it in a more overt way than I find comfortable.
In an unexpected turn of events in the video, Katy gets squashed as an anvil falls from above. Amazingly, she bounces back and reinflates herself. Later, sporting a futuristic style, she strides through the city.
Later on, the ex-judge of American Idol clarified that the incident was intended as a “fresh start” for her to accept and connect with the concept of being a divine woman.
In the final weeks prior to launching her newest album, Katy Percussion is intensely collaborating with her team to make last-minute adjustments, aiming for an improved public response.
The insider shared: “Katy is insisting on returning to the planning stage before launching additional singles, and the team is currently revising the album in an effort to save her comeback. They’re fortunate to have three months for these adjustments.”
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: “Katy has made an exciting announcement! On July 14th, she revealed on Stationhead that she’s going to let her fans decide the fate of her next single. Isn’t it amazing how involved we get to be in her music-making process?”
In the 1990s, the secret message “I love you” was frequently expressed as the number sequence “143.” This hidden expression is set to be unveiled on September 20th.
The artist is set to release a new album for the first time since “Smile,” which came out in 2020 and didn’t match the achievements of their past records.
When discussing her upcoming album, referred to casually as KP6, Katy announced that she was embarking on a “fresh chapter” or “new phase” in her music career.
