Katy Perry takes a swipe at MasterChef Australia after cooking show dropped her hit Hot N’ Cold as the theme song
As a devoted fan of MasterChef Australia for over a decade now, I must say I’m utterly disheartened by the recent decision to replace Katy Perry’s Hot N’ Cold as the theme song. It was the musical cherry on top that completed my MasterChef experience, and to see it go is like losing an old friend.
Katy Perry expressed some playful criticism towards MasterChef Australia, following their decision to replace her popular song “Hot N’ Cold” with another theme tune.
In 2023, the reality cooking show stopped using her popular song as its theme, which prompted her to criticize the producers for making that choice.
In a fresh comedy sketch by digital humorists The Granny Flat, the renowned pop artist (aged 39) found herself at the center of a friendly competition between two admirers, who boasted about their level of fandom towards her.

One fan in the skit commented, “I was rescued when I first heard ‘Hot N’ Cold’ on MasterChef Australia.
Katy then sadly informed the comedians that the song was no longer used on the show.
‘It used to be. They replaced it,’ she said.
‘That’s bulls**t,’ the comedians exclaimed, to which Katy nonchalantly replied, ‘it’s fine.’
Last year, they switched the opening theme tune as the producers decided to remove Hot N Cold from the credits, leading to numerous discussions online about potential reasons for this change.

According to fan theories, the singer’s 2008 global hit was ditched because it was too expensive.
Following requests from viewers on social media platforms, Channel 10 eventually provided an explanation as to why they had removed the song.
2023 saw the omission of opening credits during Season 15, as reported by a representative from Channel 10 to Pedestrian TV.
‘And the decision was made to get into the action faster at the top of each episode.’

Fans previously put forward some wild theories about the change.
It appeared as though the song wasn’t being played due to concerns that its lyrics might be interpreted negatively, given their contrast between ‘hot’ (alive) and ‘cold’ (not alive). This was a concern raised by someone on Reddit.
In expressing my condolences, allow me to reflect on the unexpected loss we experienced earlier this year when the esteemed culinary master and beloved judge on MasterChef Australia, Jock Zonfrillo, left us too soon. His spirit and passion for food will forever remain a beacon in our community.
Fans of MasterChef speculated that the reason for omitting Perry’s song was due to the expensive licensing costs associated with playing the popular track.
It was stated by Yahoo Lifestyle that the reason Channel Ten took down the track was due to escalating licensing costs becoming unaffordable.
Despite the fact that international versions of MasterChef don’t typically play a Katy Perry song during their intros, it gained significant popularity among Australian viewers.
At-home viewers found themselves puzzled and disheartened by the decision, some commenting that it had become more challenging to recall the names of the competitors.
One individual expressed discontent on Twitter, commenting that they long for the days when Katy Perry was around, along with contestants tossing food and grilling on hibachis during introductions.
‘Um excuse me @masterchefau where is our Katy Perry into this season?!’ asked someone else.
‘Does Katy Perry even know Hot N Cold has been shafted? After all she’s a friend of the show,’ another wrote.
