143 is Katy’s sixth studio album and her first in four years.
Over the past few years, Katy Perry’s last two albums, “Witness” (2017) and “Smile” (2020), didn’t perform as well critically or commercially despite her long-standing success on the Billboard charts.
143 was expected to mark her highly-awaited return to the scene, as her popular tunes from the 2010s experienced a revival on TikTok.
However, the release process for this album encountered several issues due to the controversy surrounding the singles Woman’s World, Lifetimes, and I’m His, He’s Mine.
Back in July, I learned about my collaboration with producer Dr. Luke on my latest tunes, notably the powerful feminist anthem, “Woman’s World.
This action faced opposition due to the fact that Dr. Luke had been involved in a lengthy legal dispute with singer Kesha, 37, for over a decade. In 2014, she accused him of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, which he strongly denies.
For the first time addressing the recent controversy, Katy recently discussed her decision on the podcast “Call Her Daddy”, defending her choice.
She acknowledged that her decision to work with Dr. Luke again sparked numerous discussions. Furthermore, he was just one of several individuals with whom she had previously worked on projects together.
The Wide Awake singer insisted Luke is simply someone who helps her ‘facilitate’ her music.
She went on: ‘But the reality is it comes from me. The truth is I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that—one of the writers, one of the producers.
‘I am speaking from my own experience. When I speak about Woman’s World, I speak about feeling so empowered now as a mother, as a woman, giving birth creating life, creating another set of organs, a brain, a heart.
She declared, “I crafted an entire heart, and I completed it. I continue to do so, and I remain a matriarch. Speaking from this place of deep connection and stability is where I find myself.
Initial feedback towards the album titled “143” has not been overly favorable for Katy, as Variety criticized it by saying that the record erases the last remnants of her bubbly personality that propelled her into stardom during the early 2010s.
The critic labeled the album as ‘uninteresting’ and noted that Katy sounded detached and distant, suggesting she had recorded her songs during breaks from “American Idol” tapings.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must confess that I found myself somewhat underwhelmed by the latest release from 143, as The Guardian aptly labeled it a “run-of-the-mill mediocre pop album.” While there were certainly moments of catchy tunes and enjoyable melodies, overall, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations for something truly exceptional.
Prior to the debut of 143, Katy Perry was honored at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards by being presented with the prestigious Video Vanguard award.
At the performance, Katy graced the stage to belt out a selection of her most popular tunes, such as “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream” and “Fireworks.
Moreover, she asked rapper Doechii to join her in performing their new collaboration, “I’m His, He’s Mine,” a song that came out on the previous Friday.
On Thursday, Perry predominantly focused on practicing for her main event at the yearly Rock In Rio music festival held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Additionally, Rock in Rio has expanded to various destinations, including Lisbon, where a concert occurred recently in June. The event featured performances by the Jonas Brothers, Doja Cat, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock on the main stage.
On Tuesday, Katy made her arrival at the bustling Galeao International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, welcomed warmly by her dedicated followers.
On Wednesday and Thursday, I journeyed to a spacious rehearsal venue, two hours distant from the main event, where I recorded myself and my dancers practicing. I later disclosed this hidden gem on my Instagram account.
Fans flocked to the singer’s hotel on Thursday in the hopes of meeting her.
Katy posted videos showing crowds of her loyal fans, known as KatyCats, repeatedly saying ‘Katy’ and ‘143’ outside her hotel room.
She waved to them from her balcony in a clip uploaded to her main Instagram feed.
