Katy Perry ‘isn’t the best judge of character’: Why popstar’s relationship with Justin Trudeau is the wrong move for her career as pair finally go public with their romance

Sources say Katy Perry’s relationship with Justin Trudeau is real, but some worry it could be a risky move for her career, as he’s a divisive figure.

The Daily Mail published photos of the new couple kissing and cuddling on the deck of a 79-foot yacht, called the Caravelle, near Santa Barbara, California, revealing their surprising romance.

Following a pointed comment from Justin Trudeau’s ex-wife earlier that day, Katy publicly stated she previously preferred British men, but ‘not anymore.’ This was widely understood as confirmation that she is now in a relationship with the former Canadian prime minister.

A source expressed surprise about the new celebrity couple, saying they seem to be genuinely into each other. However, the source also noted the woman involved doesn’t always make good choices when it comes to who she dates, at least based on public perception.

A source close to both parties has cautioned that while the Daily Mail reports the new relationship is making her happy, it might not be the best decision for her professional life.

Katy Perry, who rose to fame with her 2008 hit ‘I Kissed a Girl,’ has faced some challenges recently. Her current Lifetimes Tour hasn’t sold as many tickets as expected. Additionally, her planned trip on Blue Origin’s all-female space flight in April 2025 was criticized by some as an insensitive and costly publicity effort.

Her concerts at the O2 in London weren’t full, with empty seats visible throughout the arena on Tuesday. Earlier this year, during the US portion of her tour, some venues had as many as 70% of seats still available.

According to a source at The Mail, she’s faced bad press over the last year due to her album and her connection with Dr. Luke.

Singer Kesha sued the writer and producer, claiming he drugged and sexually assaulted her. He responded with a countersuit, denying the accusations and calling them damaging. The case was settled privately in 2023.

As a long-time follower of Canadian politics, it was quite a moment when Justin Trudeau announced he was leaving his role as Prime Minister back in January. It’s hard to believe he’d become the longest-serving leader among the G7 nations – it really marked the end of an era!

After nine years in power, his position became untenable due to his response to the pandemic and Donald Trump, along with ethical concerns and his progressive stance on social benefits and gender issues.

When he finally quit his disapproval rating amongst voters had reached almost 75 per cent.

According to a source at the Mail, Justin has become a divisive figure and is no longer as popular as he once was.

I’m seeing a real shift with Katy – her show is a hit, and people are starting to respond positively again, which is fantastic! However, her connection to Justin is unfortunately overshadowing all that good work. It’s bringing the focus back to negativity, and honestly, it’s a shame to see her hard work get lost in the noise.

Justin and Sophie ended their 18-year marriage in August 2023. They share three children: Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.

Katy and actor Orlando Bloom separated earlier in 2024. They have a five-year-old daughter named Daisy Dove Bloom.

She was previously married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 until 2012.

The singer publicly addressed her relationship with Justin Trudeau for the first time, making a playful remark during her concert at The O2 Arena in London last night.

The Daily Mail reported that she was spotted sharing kisses and affectionate moments with Justin on her 79-foot yacht, the Caravelle, near Santa Barbara, California.

Last night on stage in front of thousands of fans

On stage, Katy, age 40, addressed the London crowd, playfully asking if they were really full of energy on a Monday night after a long day of work and school.

‘No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time… but not anymore.’

It was such an amazing night! Our singer actually got proposed to *during* the show – can you believe it? It was a sweet moment, but of course, they had to politely decline. It was a little awkward, but they handled it so well, and the show went on!

She laughed: ‘I wish you’d asked me 48 hours ago.’

Rumors of a romance between Katy Perry and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 53, began in July after they were seen enjoying a private dinner at a Montreal restaurant. This came shortly after Perry, 39, announced her breakup with Orlando Bloom, 48.

The quiet didn’t last long. This weekend, the Daily Mail published exclusive photos of the couple kissing and cuddling on Katy’s yacht.

Someone who photographed the scene last month reported seeing a woman pull her boat alongside a whale-watching vessel, where she began kissing a man. The witness initially didn’t recognize the man, but then noticed a tattoo on his arm and realized it was Justin Trudeau.

After a recent intimate video of Justin surfaced, his former wife, Sophie, posted a cryptic message on social media about moving on from love.

Fifty-year-old television personality Sophie recently shared her thoughts on letting go of past relationships in a new post on Instagram.

‘Sometimes we forget that nothing we love is ever meant to be kept,’ she said.

‘The people, the places, even the moments that once felt infinite, right?

I’ve always felt like time is urging us to release things, to not hold on so tightly. But honestly, I can’t help it. Letting go feels risky, while clinging to what’s familiar, even if it’s painful, just feels…safer.

Sophie explained that love isn’t about owning someone, but about being truly present with them. Letting go of what you can’t hold onto creates room for genuine connection, closeness, cherished memories, and valuable lessons.

A simple smile can bring joy for years to come, but sadness also leaves a lasting mark. Losing my father recently, I’ve realized that even in grief, there’s a certain beauty and strength to be found.

Perhaps the most important lesson love teaches us is to remain open and accepting, even when things change and don’t last. We can cherish memories and trust that letting go doesn’t mean losing them forever – instead, it allows us to hold them safely within ourselves, where nothing can truly erase them.
