Katy Perry and Gayle King Will Fly to Space on Blue Origin Rocket
In a NASA-approved spacecraft, Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez (Jeff Bezos’ partner), and three additional women are preparing for their journey into space, taking off from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Bezos’ rocket company Blue Origin announced the all-female celebrity crew on Thursday.
Sanchez, a helicopter pilot as well as an ex-TV journalist, selected the team that will accompany her on a 10-minute space voyage from West Texas, according to the company’s statement. This journey is expected to take place sometime this spring when they soar into space aboard a New Shepard rocket. The exact launch date remains undisclosed.
As an ardent follower of space exploration, I’ve been thrilled since 2021 when Blue Origin began offering brief trips to space for tourists. Some lucky souls have even enjoyed a complimentary journey, while others have splurged on the unforgettable experience of weightlessness. However, it remains uncertain who will be sponsoring the next flight.
Sanchez extended invitations to singer Katheryn Perry, television journalist Robin King, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe (formerly of NASA), researcher Amanda Nguyen, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.
On this occasion, Blue Origin is embarking on its 11th manned space mission. During the initial voyage, Jeff Bezos was joined by his brother on board.
