Katy Perry and AFL at odds over US pop star's Grand Final setlist with claims she was limited to ONE of her new songs: 'Only the hits'

As a die-hard Katy Perry fan and someone who’s been following her career since the days of “I Kissed A Girl,” I must say I find this whole situation rather amusing. On one hand, we have the AFL, an institution steeped in tradition and Aussie rules football, wanting nothing but the classic hits that made Katy a household name. On the other hand, we have Katy, a woman who’s not just about her past successes but is always pushing boundaries and exploring new musical territories.

It seems there’s a disagreement between Katy Perry and the Australian Football League about the tunes Katy Perry will perform during the upcoming Grand Final in Melbourne.

Back in July, it was revealed that the 39-year-old music producer would be the main performer before the upcoming game, which is scheduled for next weekend.

On Monday morning, I appeared on SEN Breakfast and shared that according to seasoned AFL journalist Tom Morris, Katy’s team has reportedly resisted an AFL proposal asking the Teenage Dream singer to perform only a single new track.

He stated that she was performing approximately five songs, and the AFL was particularly eager for her to perform five timeless hits. However, she wished to incorporate two fresh compositions instead.

Tom mentioned that after negotiations, it appears that both parties have found common ground, with Katy apparently consenting to contribute only one fresh track.

‘In the end they met halfway and she’s playing one new song and four classics,’ he said.

Kane Cornes, both a co-host and an AFL legend, openly declared his fandom for Katy Perry. He further suggested that the AFL might want to be involved in the strategic planning for the spectacular stadium concert.

He stated, “All we desire from you are your powerful strikes, your forceful collisions, and your finest work.

Instead of requesting specific old hits like ‘Roar’, ‘Teenage Dream’, and ‘Firework’, they are asking for all familiar tunes that everyone knows. However, she has expressed a desire to perform two of her newer songs instead.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I often find myself in situations reminiscent of a concert crowd yearning for the best tunes from a veteran artist. We all have our favorites, and when it comes to tips and insights, I’m here to share the greatest hits – the most valuable advice that will truly make a difference in your life.

The AFL requested Katy Perry, and she said she wants to share some of her new songs.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to the AFL for comment.

Katy just dropped her newest album titled “143” a week ago, featuring the debated lead track “Woman’s World” and subsequent song “Lifetimes.

The singer released the lead single from  143 in July, but the track – billed as an empowering feminist anthem – was quickly dismissed as unoriginal, hypocritical and formulaic.

The artist behind “Teenage Dream” received criticism not only for the song itself, but also for the sexualized content in its accompanying video and her choice to collaborate with music producer Dr. Luke, who is now 50 years old. This decision was made despite his well-known legal disputes with Kesha, a singer of similar age (37).

As a die-hard fan, I must admit that the feedback on Katy’s latest album, 143, has been quite harsh, especially from Variety who seemingly took aim at my beloved idol. They asserted that the album eroded the last vestiges of the bubbly persona that propelled Katy Perry into the stratosphere of early 2010s stardom.

The announcement that Katy is bound for Australia to play in the September matchup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground sparked a wave of dissatisfaction among fans, as they questioned the necessity of bringing foreign players into the AFL league.

One fan suggested, “The AFL Grand Final ought to showcase some Australian music talent. Let’s have @birdsoftokyo perform again; they were fantastic last time.

Another chimed in with a similar sentiment, suggesting that the overseas performers recruited for the Grand Final were often past their used-by date.

The commenter stated that the AFL has traditionally employed entertainers from abroad, often a decade or more following their peak popularity. Another user added that this would have been significant a decade prior.

Another took a dig at the lacklustre performance of Katy’s recent comeback single, suggesting the September gig was a step down for the pop icon.

It seems like the management of crises within the women’s sporting world might not be thriving too much, given that a woman is participating in an AFL grand final.
