Katie Price reveals new cancer scare after finding lump in her finger – 23 years after first diagnosis

Katie Price recently voiced anxiety about the possibility of her leiomyosarcoma cancer recurring, following the discovery of a lump on her finger, which occurred 23 years since her initial diagnosis.

In 2002, when she was 24 years old, she disclosed that during her pregnancy with Harvey (who is now 23), she had received a diagnosis of a rare type of cancer.

Katie, aged 47, was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a type of cancer that primarily affects the smooth muscle cells throughout the body. This is a relatively uncommon form of cancer, and when it progresses to its advanced stages, the chances of survival are approximately equal – 50-50.

During a manicure, a beautician discovered a small lump on the index finger of her left hand, as she was already four months into her pregnancy.

On the most recent episode of The Katie Price Show, Katie expressed her concerns because her current health issues seem to be affecting the same finger where she had cancer before.

The mother-of-five said: ‘Another thing that’s really weird, you know when I had cancer years ago.

For those who were unaware, during my pregnancy with Harvey, I was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma – a type of cancer. You might notice a scar on my finger, as it has been operated on twice. There’s also a small indentation there which didn’t cause any pain.

‘But a lump started coming up and I thought I had been riding and done something to my finger.

However, to summarize, it turned out to be leiomyosarcoma, which meant regular MRI scans were necessary for me for six long years. But now, thankfully, I am cancer-free.

She commented: “Approximately three weeks back, I pondered whether I might have bumped this same digit. It aches when I press it, yet I can’t find any swelling.

As the discomfort persists, I find myself heading for an X-ray examination to ensure that it isn’t another recurrence of the same issue. Here’s to hoping for a clean bill of health this time around!

I certainly don’t want this to be more trouble, leading to poor outcomes, as it seems. Usually, after something challenging occurs in my life, something positive follows. Let’s cross our fingers that it won’t turn out badly.

When Katie initially received a cancer diagnosis, due to her regular GP being away on vacation, she consulted an alternative practitioner who reassured her that there was no cause for immediate concern.

However, she noticed the lump kept increasing in size, prompting her to seek another opinion.

As her devoted observer, I consistently monitored this lump, noticing over several months that it continued to grow progressively larger.

On two additional visits to the clinic, I grew concerned and sought help from my regular doctor, yet I didn’t get a chance to consult with them. Instead, each visit resulted in being reassured that there was no need for alarm, but I was encouraged to monitor the situation closely.

On my fourth visit, as the growth persisted, I managed to consult my general practitioner again. Upon examining the lump, he showed immediate worry.

She was directed to consult a specialist in Hove, East Sussex, however, the tests couldn’t be performed until after she had delivered her baby.

Shortly after giving birth to Harvey, a biopsy was performed at Nuffield Hospital in Brighton.

After that, I didn’t give it another thought. Since the lump disappeared, I assumed the issue had been resolved,” she mentioned.

When the consultant requested her to visit the hospital again after a few weeks, her spirits sank.

Medical experts suggest that the pregnancy might have triggered the symptoms of the cancer earlier than expected, as it could have been in a dormant state within her body without causing any noticeable issues.

Straightaway, the doctor asked me to sit down. The concern on his face was obvious to me.

In this paraphrase, I’ve tried to maintain the original meaning while using simpler and more natural language.

‘Then he came right out with it. He said, “I’ve got bad news, it’s cancer”.

Almost chuckled, but ended up merely fixed my gaze on him as he delved deeper into an elaborate description of their discovery.

Upon his halt, I inquired if perhaps the cancer might be the reason behind Harvey’s blindness. To my query, he responded with a firm negative.

The doctors informed her that it’s highly likely she’ll encounter another lump, requiring more treatment down the line.

She stated, “I merely nodded without absorbing anything, as if I was utterly numb, unable to process thoughts or even shed tears.

Additionally, during the podcast, Katie mentioned that she recently had a blood test due to experiencing low platelet levels, which she believes could be the reason behind her significant weight reduction.

She stated, “I’ve undergone a blood test, revealing unusually low platelet levels, which I initially believed to be a result of iron deficiency, but it appears to be something else.

Perhaps the reason for my weight loss could be because I’ve been feeling exhausted and lacking in energy. The doctors mentioned this could be related, and they may suggest a blood transfusion to increase my platelet levels.

‘So I’ve got to go back and have my bloods done again.’
