Katie Price Reveals Her Heartbreaking Suicide Attempt and Addiction Battle

As a lifestyle advisor speaking candidly, I recently shared my personal struggle that led me to contemplate taking my own life. During an interview this week, I discussed a difficult time in my life where I sustained an injury – a black eye – as a result of this painful experience.

In simpler terms, the former glamour model, aged 46, mentioned she resorted to cocaine use during a particularly difficult time in her life, approximately four years back. This period left her feeling hopeless and unwilling to continue living.

Katie, currently involved with JJ Slater, sought treatment at The Priory following her recognition that she had developed an unhealthy reliance on drugs and alcohol to deal with stress.

In the recent installment of Paul C Brunson’s podcast, “We Need To Talk,” she discussed her pivotal experiences in life as well as her path to healing.

The TV figure started off by saying: “I almost took my own life, only to find myself awake later. My cellphone was submerged in the toilet. I had a shiner, I just felt like I no longer wanted to stay here on earth.

For me, the most difficult period occurred approximately four years back, when I resorted to using cocaine as a means of coping, as it numbed all my feelings… This was a low point in my life.

Generally, individuals who use cocaine experience an intense euphoria; however, for Katie, it led to a shutdown. This response is common among those with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and following her stay at the Priory, she received an official diagnosis.

She went on saying: ‘My family’s concern was met with my denial. When they would ask, “Kate, are you okay?”, I would respond with a casual ‘yes, yes, I’m fine’ while I was actually struggling and found myself lying in bed feeling down, avoiding getting up or even taking a shower—not the usual me.’

When I woke up to head to work, folks often asked me, “Are you okay?”, and deep down, I yearned to respond with a heartfelt ‘No’, but instead, I wore a mask.

Or:

When it was time for me to go to work, people would query my wellbeing by asking, “Are you alright?” Yet, there were moments when I wanted to weep and honestly say, “No, I’m not,” but instead, I presented a cheerful demeanor.

In September 2021, Katie found herself in handcuffs following an incident where she was driving under the influence. This occurred when she lost control of her uninsured BMW X5 and rolled it onto its side on a rural road close to her residence in West Sussex.

In court, she openly confessed to operating a vehicle under the influence, driving while prohibited, and driving without valid insurance coverage. Following her apprehension, she promptly sought treatment at The Priory.

Katie was handed a 16-week suspended sentence and two-year ban at Crawley Magistrates’ Court.

During her time at The Priory, she shared that she felt deeply distressed, expressing, “Oh dear me, I must act, this is not who I truly am.

I never pass judgment on anyone, especially when they discuss mental health issues, because I believe these matters are genuine and significant. Regardless of who may be present, or what others might say, it is always important to prioritize self-help.

Katie added: ‘It’s crucial that you take charge – if you can’t make progress on your own, you won’t improve. To grow, you must assume responsibility for the circumstances I found myself in and acknowledge my feelings.’

It’s important for you to acknowledge and address the harm you may have caused to those close to you, including family members. Recognize that accepting responsibility is a step towards healing, and it might help you discover new opportunities.

‘It’s like the sunshine. Look what opportunities you’ve got now. Why? Because your head’s better.

‘I make my own decisions. I am self-governing, not being directed by others. I am independent and free from any external control. I have a clear understanding of where I stand, and I have been actively communicating.’

In addition, Katie went to The Priory back in September 2018 and stayed there for 28 days due to the insistence of her family who suggested she seek help. This decision came after her excessive partying in Mallorca and a challenging year that included an arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

During that period, she faced her closest people following the public emergence of videos showing her rapping about ‘coke’ while intoxicated at her bachelorette party.

As a lifestyle advisor speaking from personal experience, I confess that following an intervention, I crumbled under the weight of my emotions. It was then that I acknowledged the need for assistance in navigating my disorganized patterns, ones I attributed to the lingering effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
