Katie Johnston, a bride from the reality show Married At First Sight, has shown off her incredible weight loss, having lost 26 kilograms in only three months.
The 37-year-old contestant, partnered with Tim Gromie on the latest season of the show, said appearing on the program was a significant moment for her, especially because she revisited her wedding dress.
Katie shared with Woman’s Day that she had a moment where she realized she was getting older and wanted to start dating, but wasn’t sure where to begin.
She confessed she knew she had put on weight before starting the experiment, but she hoped her future husband would look past her physical appearance.
Katie’s worries came true when Tim bluntly stated he had a preference for small, blonde women. This comment deeply hurt Katie and was the final straw, causing her to end the marriage.
She stated she doesn’t want to be with someone who makes her feel insecure. She believes she’s worthy, regardless of her appearance or situation.

Katie shared that she hadn’t taken care of her health for a long time, and had intentionally gained weight to discourage attention from others.
She secretly worried a lot about what people thought of her, always anticipating criticism and fearing it would make her feel insecure again.
She was motivated to make a change and visited a doctor, who used a DEXA scan to analyze what her body was made of.
The test results showed she had a dangerously high amount of belly fat, which significantly increased her risk of developing serious health problems.
‘I knew I was overweight – it was visually obvious,’ she admitted.
The scan revealed I had dangerously high levels of visceral fat, which essentially meant I was at risk of serious health problems and a shorter lifespan. That news was a wake-up call, and I knew I had to make a real change.
After that, Katie decided to completely change her lifestyle. She explained it wasn’t about how she looked anymore, but about staying alive, and that she was working to get healthy and save herself.
In just three months, Katie lost an incredible 26 kilos.

To celebrate this achievement, she revisited a significant moment from her past by wearing her wedding dress from Married at First Sight. It was a reminder of her personal growth since the show ended.
The bride shared that going through this experience has made her feel stronger, healthier, and more confident. She believes this change comes from both her physical progress and a greater ability to bounce back from challenges.
Katie recently shared a deeply personal story with the Daily Mail, describing the devastating moment her life changed and how her experience on Married at First Sight ultimately empowered her to regain control.
Katie shared that she was just three months away from turning 21 when a man she knew and trusted sexually assaulted her.
The weight became her protection – a barrier between herself and a world she no longer trusted.
She believed she had moved on from her past when she joined the show Married at First Sight in 2025, but watching the episodes revealed she wasn’t as emotionally recovered as she thought.
She explained that during her time on the show, she found herself upset by someone whose opinion she didn’t value, which she realized was a reaction she needed to address.
‘That’s when I realised – I still had work to do. My self-esteem wasn’t where I thought it was.’

Honestly, it wasn’t about what anyone else thought or how I looked that finally motivated me. It was actually a health scan – and finding out my visceral fat levels were seriously high. That was a real wake-up call for me, and what truly made me want to change.
She discovered her body was aging faster than her chronological age, and a high level of visceral fat was a significant warning sign, she explained.
It suddenly hit me: I’d been burdened by this feeling as if I deserved to suffer. But I realized I was slowly destroying myself, and that frightened me deeply.
Katie was determined to get healthy, so she decided to focus on more than just losing weight – she wanted to fully embrace life.
‘This isn’t about vanity,’ she said firmly. ‘It’s about survival.’
Katie first attempted to lose weight using injections like Mounjaro, but she experienced side effects like tiredness and feeling unwell.
Mounjaro, whose active ingredient is tirzepatide, is a medication typically prescribed for type 2 diabetes. Like Ozempic (semaglutide), it can also lead to weight loss.
‘I didn’t feel alive. I was shrinking physically, but I had no energy – no spark,’ she said.
She then resumed Mounjaro with a supplement that she says helped with side effects.
‘It changed everything,’ Katie said.
‘I felt energised, excited to work out, and like I was finally living again.’
