As I delve into the captivating journey of Kathy Bates, it is evident that her career has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. From facing adversities early on to reaching the pinnacle of success with iconic roles like Annie Wilkes and Evelyn Harper, she has truly embodied resilience.

Over a period of six years, Kathy Bates disclosed her achievement of shedding approximately 100 pounds, which had been a subject of curiosity among fans as they wondered if she might have been using the medication Ozempic for weight loss.

76-year-old actress, previously known for her role as ‘The Misery’ star, revealed her weight loss experience in a recent interview with Variety, which was published on Wednesday, following the announcement of her retirement from acting after the CBS’ Matlock reboot.

In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I’d proudly share how my commitment to health and weight loss played a pivotal role during the production of Matlock. Balancing my role on set required a strong focus on wellness, and I’m happy to say it was a game-changer!

Over the past six to seven years, I’ve managed to shed an incredible 100 pounds, and it’s absolutely transformed my life! Honestly, I can hardly remember a time when I felt this light and agile. It’s as if I’ve stepped back into the body of the student I was during my college days.

2011 marked a time when Kathy found herself weighing the most during her run on the NBC show, Harry’s Law. She openly acknowledged feeling the need to rest as much as possible.

I found it difficult to move around on foot. I feel embarrassed that my fitness level had dropped so significantly, yet I now have an incredible surge of energy.

Some spectators believe Kathy Bates may have lost weight using Ozempic, as one fan expressed online, “Could it be that Kathy Bates is on Ozempic? Wow!

Another social media user typed out, ‘kathy bates on ozempic now too… we’re losing our fat empresses…’

Previously, Bates has shared details about her weight loss journey, and in 2019, she discussed with Extra the reasons that motivated her to prioritize her health.

She expressed her gratitude by saying, “I have never felt healthier in quite some time, and it feels like a true miracle to me.” After shedding an impressive 60 lbs, she shared this sentiment with the media.

The Titanic actress explained, ‘I was facing diabetes – it runs in my family – and I really didn’t want to live with that.’

Kathy said she learned, ‘After you eat for 20-30 minutes, you experience an involuntary sigh.’

‘It’s communication between stomach and brain telling you you had enough…and what I discovered is if you listen to that sigh and push that plate away for just five minutes, you realize you’re satisfied and you don’t have to eat more.’

2003 saw the star receive a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, and following this, she was later confronted with breast cancer in 2012.

She underwent a double mastectomy, but ‘developed a disease called lymphedema after that.’

Lymphedema results when there is excessive fluid buildup in the tissues, which should typically be removed via the body’s lymphatic system, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.

In a recent conversation with The New York Times, Bates expressed that she is preparing for retirement once her current CBS series, Matlock, concludes its run.

In a modern adaptation of the Matlock series, originally played by Andy Griffith from 1986 to 1995, Kathy takes on the role of Madeline Matlock, a character previously portrayed as male.

Throughout the course of her illustrious acting career, she has garnered an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and two Golden Globe Awards.

Bates confided to the media that she had been preparing to retire from her career, a decision made prior to her involvement with Matlock.

She revealed that a recent movie shoot last year (she won’t identify which movie) had caused her to seriously consider retiring… before the Matlock script came her way.

She expressed that her talent has essentially become a part of her life. At times, she feels envious of possessing such a skill. This is because she finds herself unable to contain it, and yearns for her life to be filled with its expression.

After expressing my intention to retire to my representatives, I was unexpectedly presented with a pilot script for Matlock – a role that resonated deeply with me as Madeline Matlock.

She said that the injustices she faced early on in her career mirror the plight of her title character.

She stated that everything she had prayed for, strived for, and struggled to achieve is now being requested of her. It’s overwhelmingly tiring.

As I step off the stage following the conclusion of Matlock, I firmly assert that this marks the end of my dancing career. Even before the September 22 premiere, CBS has graciously granted us an 18-episode run.

Bates mentioned that she could relate to the character since they both channel their sorrow through their professional endeavors.

‘Maybe on some deep level that’s why I was attracted to this,’ Bates admitted in the interview.

In the show, Skye P. Marshall, who portrays a fellow attorney, could only offer admiration for her dedication and hard work.

According to Marshall, when she reviews a script, you’ll notice that she doesn’t hesitate to question both the directors and the writers constructively.

She’s a versatile, stunningly beautiful warrior with exceptional intuition, intelligence, and an unyielding stance against any form of unfairness, she noted.

Although the actress may not have perceived herself this way, it was during the interview when she started crying near its conclusion.

Given the state of the world, it feels almost unjustified for me, enjoying a comfortable lifestyle with a luxurious setting, successful career, and a lavish home, to express any sadness or hardship,” Bates noted.

And while recently talking to Variety, she also briefly discussed whether she has plans for retirement.

Kathy mentioned that her friends believe she might end up passing away, just like Molière, while seated on stage, as performing is truly a vital part of her life.
