Kathryn Bigelow, the director of acclaimed war films like The Hurt Locker (2008) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012), is celebrated for her thoughtful and complex portrayals of political conflicts. Her latest project is a new film released on Netflix.
Unlike her previous big hits, A House of Dynamite had a small release in theaters before becoming available on the streaming service on October 24th. The film first premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, and then received a limited two-week theatrical run in the U.S. starting October 10th – a strategy Netflix often uses for films they hope will win awards. According to FlixPatrol, the film quickly became very popular worldwide after its release.
The new political thriller, A House of Dynamite, quickly became a global hit. It reached the No. 1 spot in 48 countries on Netflix – including the United States – immediately after its release. By October 26th, it had climbed even higher, topping the charts in a total of 71 countries worldwide.
A House of Dynamite is a tense political thriller exploring the dangers of nuclear weapons. The story centers on how the U.S. government reacts when a nuclear missile is launched by an unknown attacker. The film features a strong cast including Rebecca Ferguson (known for Dune), Idris Elba (from The Wire and Beats of No Nation), Gabriel Basso (The Night Agent), Jared Harris (Chernobyl, The Crown), Anthony Ramos (Hamilton), and Tracy Letts (Homeland).
The movie cost approximately $30 million to make, but it didn’t earn much money in theaters. According to The Number, it only made $181,000 internationally, and we don’t have any information about its earnings in the United States.
A House of Dynamite Received Great Reviews
