As I delve into Katherine Ryan‘s heartwarming journey as a parent, I can’t help but admire her unique perspective and unconventional approach. She’s challenging societal norms, breaking barriers, and redefining what it means to be a mother in the 21st century. Her attachment parenting style, combined with her campy, eccentric grandmother persona, is nothing short of extraordinary.

As a die-hard fan of Katherine Ryan, I can’t help but share her recent revelation. She’s openly stated that she’s stepping back from Strictly Come Dancing because she’s not yet prepared to engage in lighthearted banter while her husband is around. It seems she values her personal life and wants to maintain a balance between her professional and private spheres, which I totally respect!

For a while, the BBC show has had a reputation linked to a phenomenon often referred to as the ‘curse’. This curse seems to affect certain contestants who find themselves romantically involved with their dance partners, even though some of them were previously in relationships before participating.

In a chat with TopMob, the comedian, aged 41, shared that she won’t participate in the dance show as she isn’t prepared to be disloyal to her partner, Bobby Koostra. However, she jokingly added that she might reconsider her decision later on.

She confessed: “I’d love to dance with you, but I’m not confident about my dancing skills, and I’m not at a point where I can afford to break my marital vows. However, in the future…”

Katherine expressed, regarding the infamous Strictly Curse, ‘I’d be thrilled. I’d be eager for the curse to happen.’

In their youth, the popular television personality and Bobby were high school sweethearts, eventually rekindling their relationship after many years apart. They then got married and welcomed two beautiful children: Fenna, aged two, and Fred, who is three years old.

Katherine isn’t alone among celebrities opting out of Strictly; Gemma Collins has also announced her refusal to participate due to the ongoing controversy surrounding the program.

Currently, Strictly is experiencing its most significant challenge in its 20-year history. A series of accusations from former celebrity participants concerning alleged ‘mistreatment’ and ‘harassment’ have surfaced recently.

Graziano Di Prima, a professional dancer aged 30, was dismissed from the show after allegations surfaced that he physically assaulted and verbally abused his dance partner, Zara McDermott, who is 27 years old, during practice sessions.

Additional accounts indicated he pursued Zara while shouting offensive remarks, causing her such fear that she hid in a bathroom. He also hurled derogatory comments at her, questioned her weight gain, and behaved aggressively, resulting in her appearing dejected and weeping.

Previously, at the onset of an investigation by the BBC, Italian dancer Giovanni Pernice, aged 33, found himself temporarily out of commission due to allegations of inappropriate behavior off-camera that were leveled against him by Amanda Abbington, 50, and two other previous celebrity partners.

In the conversation, Katherine shared insights into her parenting approach, humorously admitting she often acts more like a grandparent than a parent, considering her frequent indulgence of her kids with treats.

Katherine, with a 15-year-old daughter named Violet from her past relationship, expressed: “I used to believe I was acting like her father since I work and my partner takes care of the home, but I’ve come to understand that I’m more like her grandmother. This is because I often give her sweets, I’m quite fun, and I’m definitely getting up there in age.”

As Violet was brought up by her mom, I find myself serving as a lively granny to the youngest pair. Whenever they propose an adventure, I enthusiastically respond, “Why not? Let’s go for it!” I embody the role of the whimsical, adventurous grandma, who delights in whisking them away on memorable excursions, creating a world full of fun, and always welcoming their suggestions with a resounding yes.

In her explanation of her parenting approach, she said, “I’m always around, more like a constant grandmother figure. However, I have an upcoming tour this fall, which means I’ll be gone for a while. But overall, I follow the principles of attachment parenting.”

‘I continue to co-sleep with my little ones as I’m quite involved in their care; others might describe me as overly hands-on. The babies seem particularly attached to me, and they get upset or even sick when I leave the room. Consequently, I need to stay close to them.’

Prior to now, Katherine shared insights into her experiences as a parent, acknowledging that she’s growing more comfortable with fulfilling her responsibilities as a parent figure, having mentioned that her marriage seems to have taken a less prominent position.

The Canadian comedian, based in the UK, shared that she will no longer label herself as a ‘poor mother’ when experiencing mom-guilt. Instead, she has chosen to reframe her self-image by referring to herself as an ‘excellent parent.’

In my fervor, I’d say, “I wholeheartedly believe that I juggle the roles of a breadwinner, homemaker, and nurturer. I labor in a system that’s traditionally male-dominated, yet I also cook, clean, and take care of our home. I bring home the income, but I’m not deceiving anyone.”

In an interview with Heat magazine, Katherine shared her experiences managing parenthood while grappling with the occasional maternal guilt that arises.

She mentioned that she is growing more comfortable in her fatherly role. Earlier, she often worried that leaving her children with a caretaker or even her spouse might label her as a less-than-ideal mom.

As someone who has been a father for quite some time now, I can confidently say that I take my role as a parent very seriously. Coming home every night and being hands-on with my children is not just something I do, it’s a choice I made because I want to be an active and involved part of their lives. I don’t cheat on anyone or bring any unnecessary negativity into our household. I strive to maintain a positive attitude and set a good example for my kids.

‘I think anyone who’s like “Oh, I’m a terrible mum”, you’re not. You’re just a great dad.’
