Katherine Ryan says she has been ‘addicted to pregnancy for five years’ and hints she won’t be having anymore children

Katherine Ryan recently revealed she’s felt ‘addicted to pregnancy‘ over the past five years, but suggests she’s finished having children.

The 42-year-old comedian recently welcomed her daughter, Holland. She and her husband, Bobby Kootstra, are also parents to four-year-old son Fred and two-year-old daughter Fenna.

She also a mother to her first daughter, Violet, 16, from a previous relationship.

Katherine shared a photo of her baby, Holland, on Instagram Wednesday and announced she’s already donated most of the baby’s newborn clothes.

‘Meanwhile, I gave away a bunch of newborn clothes today and it was heartbreaking,’ she wrote.

She suggested she doesn’t want to have another baby, explaining that after five pregnancies, it’s been difficult adjusting to not being pregnant anymore.

Katherine recently opened up about the fierce backlash her parenting advice has received.

Katherine recently discussed on Davina McCall’s Begin Again podcast – recorded while she was still pregnant – how she’s been called ‘privileged’ for sharing parenting tips, particularly about potty training, with other new mothers.

She previously shared that her son, Fred, was potty trained by eight months old, and now believes parents should begin potty training from very early on – almost from birth.

‘And when I say potty training, I think it gets lost in translation.

People often react defensively when questioned, immediately becoming upset. They seem to think I’m blaming them – suggesting they’re neglecting or don’t love their child, even if that child is very young and still needs diapers. I believe this is simply a misunderstanding.

The mother of four explained that she thinks many caring parents unintentionally teach their babies to rely on diapers. They don’t realize they’re actually training them to use one from the very beginning.

Regularly taking a child out of diapers and holding them on the potty helps them learn to use it.

Katherine acknowledged that this arrangement wouldn’t be feasible for every family, as many new mothers need to return to work quickly and rely on daycare for their babies.

People often assume I’m privileged and have help like chefs and nannies, but that’s not the case.

Katherine paused as she added: ‘I mean, I do.

‘I have a nanny, and I have a cleaner that comes twice a week, but there’s no chef.

That’s Bobby. I did manage to potty train my oldest daughter, Violet, even though I was a struggling single mom at the time.

In recent years, she’s been candid about her difficulties trying to get pregnant, sharing in 2024 that she experienced three miscarriages over five years.

In November 2024, Katherine shared that she’d like to have more children, but expressed concern about her age.

She joked that she felt like the grandmother, not the father, to the young children, even though she was the one working. ‘I’m getting older,’ she said, ‘and I’ve ended up as the fun grandma who spoils them with treats and sometimes has a sore back!’

In 2022, the television personality shared that she had hidden her second pregnancy, fearing it would negatively impact her career.

She secretly hosted the ITV show Ready To Mingle while eight months pregnant, choosing not to reveal her condition to anyone.

Katherine and Bobby have been a couple since 2018, but they’ve known each other much longer – they grew up together as kids in Canada.

They were childhood sweethearts who briefly separated, but their romance was reignited after one of them moved across the Atlantic Ocean.
