Katherine Ryan reveals why she spoils her daughter Violet, 16, with extravagant gifts and flights wherever she wants to go

Katherine Ryan explained her reasoning for showering her daughter with lavish gifts and allowing her to travel anywhere she desires.

I was chatting recently, and the topic of ‘nepo babies’ came up – you know, those with famous parents. As a mom myself – to Violet, 16, Fred, 4, Fenna, 2, and little Holland, who’s just arrived – I had a lot to say on the subject. It’s definitely something I’ve been thinking about!

She also shared how she’s been working to make sure her oldest child doesn’t get carried away by someone who seems important just because of their family name or status.

Katherine recently told Paloma Faith on her podcast, Mad, Sad & Bad, that she doesn’t try to instill humility in her children. She’s aware that having famous or well-connected parents can sometimes be a disadvantage.

Many of these children find it difficult to reach the same level of success as their parents, and that can be incredibly disheartening.

I’ve decided to really spoil my daughter this Valentine’s Day with some over-the-top gifts.

She explained that she takes her mother everywhere she asks, and always tries to get them the best seats to events. She does this because she worries her mother will be unimpressed by anyone else’s family.

I was once really touched by even something small, like being offered a ride. I believe I’m a wonderful mother and a fantastic father.

‘Parenting is my wheelhouse. I’m good at it. I’m honest with my kids, I look after my kids.

I don’t feel the same sense of guilt that many women experience when they decide to become mothers.

Katherine recently shared the story of her incredibly fast delivery on her podcast, explaining that she welcomed her baby daughter in just 45 minutes.

Just days after giving birth, the comedian filmed her Netflix special, Katherine Ryan: Telling Everybody Everything, while holding her newborn daughter, Holland.

Katherine and her husband, Bobby Koostra, welcomed their baby, Holland, into the world on Sunday. Bobby shared adorable photos of the newborn on Instagram to announce the happy news.

The couple welcomed their new baby at The Portland, a private hospital, and the care cost them £10,000.

On her podcast a few days later, Katherine talked openly about what happened that day, even sharing an embarrassing moment with the doctor she found attractive, who she referred to as ‘Pat’.

Katherine shared that after giving birth, she was presented with a list of opioid painkillers to choose from for managing her discomfort.

Katherine began the clip by saying, ‘This is the story of our child’s birth. What’s your ranking of it?’

Bobby then said: ‘So this one, we scheduled it. And it went according to plan and no problems.’

Katherine described the arrival of her baby, Holland, as surprisingly easy. She explained they had a planned timeline – if she hadn’t gone into labor by Friday, doctors, including a particularly charming obstetrician named Pat, would have induced it.

We’re not revealing his complete name, but people familiar with the situation will understand who we’re talking about. It’s a name most people recognize, and he’s definitely not someone you’d want to cross.

Bobby then quipped: ‘How’d that go?’

Katherine explained she wasn’t feeling well, and then described a concerning physical experience – fluid leaking from her vagina. She realized, belatedly, that this meant the baby was crowning, and they had been referring to the baby as ‘Fenna’ (Holland) throughout the process.

I was standing by the bed and thought, ‘Maybe I could get a shot of diamorphine.’ The nurse said she’d ask another colleague, Pat, if it was possible.

She left and returned, and Pat told me he wouldn’t even bother checking on me, but that I could get the shot. I replied that he actually needed to come check me right away.

I decided to lie down on the bed and remove my trousers. Fortunately, Miriam and Pat came in, and someone happened to be nearby outside.

Bobby mentioned he was glad the person wasn’t there to see what happened, because you were already with the doctor and midwife on the bed for about three minutes when they arrived.

Katherine candidly added: ‘Yeah, and I knew I s*** myself.’

You know, I’ve definitely been in situations where someone tries to downplay something I know to be true. It’s frustrating when they act like you’re unsure of yourself, especially when you’re absolutely certain about what happened. It’s like, you’re already dealing with a lot – maybe discomfort, maybe stress – and then someone tries to make you second-guess your own reality? It’s just… irritating!

The podcast clip was captioned: ’45 min active labour. 45 min podcast episode.’
