Katherine Ryan confirms new cancer battle as she reveals shock diagnosis
Katherine Ryan has announced that she’s been officially diagnosed with skin cancer. She revealed that this diagnosis followed an earlier incorrect assessment.
The stand-up comedian, who’s previously graced shows like ‘Taskmaster’ and ‘The Masked Singer’, disclosed on her podcast titled ‘Telling Everybody Everything’ that she has been diagnosed with melanoma for the second time, having fought it back in 2004.
During the segment, Ryan shared that she visited a doctor due to worry about a mole on her arm. The doctor then reassured her that the mole was not cancerous.

Doubtful, Ryan decided to get a second opinion, which confirmed that the original diagnosis had been mistaken.
She remarked, “It can be quite simple to accept a diagnosis of ‘you are in good health’ and move on without further thought.” She continued, “You might say to yourself, ‘I’m healthy, great!’ and then not give it another thought because that’s the most effortless news. However, this mole was continually changing – I just felt that something about it wasn’t quite right.
I entered the doctor’s office to have a growth removed and stitched in a straight line. However, when he examined it, he reassured me saying, ‘This isn’t melanoma, it’s completely fine. I will perform a shave excision and send the sample for histology examination. If we missed any borders during this procedure, I will perform a deeper cut.’
Today, he called and the results came back as an early-stage melanoma (skin cancer). This took both of us by surprise, and the doctor emphasized that I should return for further evaluation.
It seems utterly unbelievable to me; it’s as if a different outcome might have occurred if I hadn’t stood up for myself, and I plan to keep advocating for myself in the future.
Ryan, who’s previously been on the show “Have I Got News for You“, went on to remark: “If I had accepted that great response initially and left it there, then a potentially harmful mole might have been developing and expanding on my arm… Who knows how big it could have become.
