Katherine Heigl says she is “embarrassed” by Grey’s Anatomy ghost sex scene
Previously starring on the hit series ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, actress Katherine Heigl has confessed that she felt ‘ashamed’ about the famous ghost sex scene on the show.
In the ABC medical drama, the actor portrayed Dr. Izzie Stevens for the initial six seasons, until saying goodbye to the series in 2010.
Throughout many story arcs over the years, one particularly memorable moment occurred in season five’s episode titled ‘In the Midnight Hour’. This scene features the character Izzie engaging in an intimate encounter with the spirit of the deceased Denny Duquette, portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Two decades later, Heigl and Morgan reminisced about their old TV show during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, admitting that they found some parts of the fifth season a bit puzzling.
Heigl reminisced that it was perplexing for everyone involved. There’s one specific moment she can’t bear to watch again, even if her kids were 60. She has no desire to revisit this scene with them. In the movie, there was a scene where she was present, but she was struggling to convince herself and others that she wasn’t there at all.
Alex (Justin Chapman) and Izzie begin to engage in playful activity, and he proceeds to perform an intimate act on her. Meanwhile, you find yourself standing there. At the moment, your thoughts are something like, ‘Isn’t this what we paid for?’ You reply, ‘I’m not sure what to do… I’ll do my best.’
In her own words, Heigl admitted that she would find it hard to justify a scene depicting Izzie and the spirit of Denny engaging in an intimate moment. She put it simply: “I’d rather watch it, but I wouldn’t want to sit beside you while doing so. I’d be mortified. I just don’t know how to articulate this.
Katie Heigl isn’t alone among the stars of “Grey’s Anatomy” in expressing concern about their children watching the show. More recently, Ellen Pompeo (Dr Meredith Grey) has shared that her youngest child is not yet prepared to watch it.
Pompeo stated, ‘My ten-year-old is eager to watch it, but she isn’t quite prepared.’ I don’t feel comfortable showing myself in my underwear on TV right now. However, all her schoolmates have already seen it. So, it certainly sparks some interesting discussions during pick-up time.
In the United States, you can catch season 21 of “Grey’s Anatomy” every Thursday at 10pm Eastern Time on ABC. If you’re in the UK and want to watch previous seasons, they are available for streaming on Disney+.
