Katee Sackhoff Says She Once Watched A Longmire Actor Get Fired During Lunch

Despite the glamorous façade of being an actor, especially for those at or near the top, the profession can conceal some genuine challenges for individuals who choose it as a career. The competition is fierce for these roles, and there are unfortunate instances like actors being hired as series regulars only to be let go after filming a TV pilot. Now, Katee Sackhoff from ‘Battlestar Galactica’ has revealed an instance of termination that happened quite unusually – even during lunch break!

What Did Katee Sackhoff Say About The Longmire Lunch-Time Firing?

Katee Sackhoff is most famously recognized for her role as fighter pilot Captain Kara Thrace, or Starbuck, in Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica series over four seasons. However, following her intense battles against Cylons and her mysterious space resurrection, she moved on to act in the contemporary western drama, Longmire, a show available for streaming with your Netflix subscription.

In a recent episode of her podcast, “The Sackhoff Show,” actress Katee Sackhoff, in conversation with Patrick Sabongui from “The Hunting Party” (which completed its first season on the 2025 TV lineup), discussed working as guest stars on television series. Sabongui expressed concern about talent who fail to fully memorize their scenes, focusing solely on their lines instead, and Sackhoff agreed, pointing out this approach can negatively impact a performance.

On set of Longmire, it was a requirement that if the guest actors weren’t ready and well-prepared, they would be dismissed. In fact, they wouldn’t even be asked to return. I recall an incident where someone was let go at lunchtime because their performance ended up being unusable anyway.

Wow, isn’t it astonishing? You manage to secure a guest role on a show like Longmire (a series that spanned six seasons after Netflix took over for Season 4), but your performance was so lackluster that while waiting in line for your salad, you were summoned and instructed to gather your things and leave. It appears that the producers chose to invest additional time and resources to re-shoot everything you had performed.

Sabongui and Sackhoff discussed some challenges faced by actors, including the fact that you could secure a guest role on a TV show and appear successful, but by the time that episode airs, you might have been jobless for weeks or months. Each job comes with its own highs and lows, but few of us need to put in immense effort continuously merely to find another job to cover our expenses.

It’s quite unlikely that someone would consistently show up to work without taking their responsibilities seriously or being prepared. This seems to have occurred on multiple occasions, as Sabongui pointed out. Notably, the producers of “Longmire” were diligent about maintaining quality, which could explain why the final product was so impressive.
