Kate Winslet breaks down in tears as she reflects on ‘absolutely appalling’ body shaming she experienced aged just 22 after starring in Titanic
As a lifestyle expert with a heart for understanding the human spirit, I deeply empathize with Kate Winslet’s journey and her experiences with body shaming. Her resilience and determination in the face of adversity are truly inspiring, and her ability to channel those experiences into powerful performances is commendable.
Kate Winslet choked up as she recalled the instances of body shaming she faced following her role in Titanic.
In 1997, when she was only 22 years old, the actress, now 49, became emotional and shed tears in a 60 Minutes interview as she reflected on the body-shaming comments she faced regarding her weight back then.
Now starring in Lee which she also produced, she said: ‘It was absolutely appalling.
What sort of individual could possibly act in such a manner towards a young actress who’s still finding her way in the industry?
With my voice trembling, I shared, “I finally met with them. I spoke my mind. I told them, ‘May this encounter linger in your thoughts.’
That moment was incredibly significant since it wasn’t solely about me; it represented the many individuals who endured such harassment. It was indeed harrowing and truly awful.

The interview includes a cut to a red carpet host telling Winslet she looked ‘a little melted and poured’ into a dress and that she should’ve worn a gown ‘two sizes larger.’
Discussing her latest character, Elizabeth Lee Miller – a fashion model turned celebrated war reporter for Vogue during World War II, Winslet reminisced about a recent instance where a team member requested her to ‘draw in my breath’.
‘People say “oh you were so brave for this role because you’re not wearing any makeup”.
“Would we tell the actors, ‘You were so courageous in your role, you decided to grow a beard’? No, we wouldn’t. I encounter this frequently. It’s not about bravery; it’s just acting the part.
In response to your question about a crew member suggesting I adjust my posture due to a noticeable bulge, I can confirm that they did advise me to subtly pull in and straighten up for comfort’s sake.
‘And no, I don’t think Lee would have done. I don’t care about showing that. It’s exhausting.’
27 years after their collaboration on the iconic movie “Titanic”, Kate Winslet and her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, now both aged 50, recently found themselves together again at a screening of Kate’s latest film, “Lee”, in Los Angeles.
In the 1997 hit film directed by James Cameron, they played the roles of Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, respectively.

Previously acting partners seemed delighted to be reunited, exchanging a warm embrace during their photo shoot with the press.
In discussing her childhood and initial acting days, the Academy Award recipient shared that her drama teacher advised her she’d always be cast in ‘larger-sized female’ roles.
As I eagerly listened to his words, he said, “Dearest Kate, given how stunning you are now, it seems you’ll need to accept roles that cater to the fuller-figured characters.
I wasn’t particularly overweight, but it fueled a quiet resolve within me. I thought to myself, “I’ll prove it to you without making a fuss.
