Kate Mulgrew wants to follow the relationship with Janeway and Chakotay in season three of Star Trek: Prodigy
As a lifelong Star Trek fan who has witnessed countless intergalactic romances unfold across the cosmos, I find myself intrigued by the rekindling of the enigmatic relationship between Admiral Kathryn Janeway and Captain Chakotay in Star Trek: Prodigy. Their dynamic, steeped in a deep-rooted respect and mutual understanding, has always been a captivating aspect of Voyager that left fans yearning for more.
In Star Trek: Voyager, Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) share a relationship that hints at a potential romantic connection. Despite fan expectations, their relationship didn’t develop into a romance, largely due to Mulgrew’s preference. Given that Chakotay served under Janeway on Voyager, it would have been challenging to maintain such a relationship due to the command structure.
In the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy, the duo have reconnected, which has sparked the age-old question: will they develop romantic feelings or not? They’ve rekindled their friendship after Admiral Janeway had been on a quest to find Captain Chakotay. Although their reunion was touching, it didn’t progress beyond friendship. Could this be the end of their potential relationship? Actress Kate Mulgrew hinted at MSN through Collider that there might be intrigue in exploring this relationship further. She doesn’t specify what she hopes to see unfold, but when she mentioned possibilities, she said “maybe I like tragedy.” This comment prompted co-creator Dan Hageman to suggest that “someone must face a tragic end.” Brother co-creator Kevin Hageman further fueled the suspense by implying that Janeway might be the one to meet a sad fate.
Is it possible that Season 3 of Prodigy, or perhaps a future season, could lead to the demise of Admiral Janeway? This is an idea that fans find hard to contemplate, yet we understand that it’s inevitable for characters we’ve grown attached to to face such endings. Actress Kate Mulgrew doesn’t seem overly troubled by this prospect.

Prodigy gets renewed for another season, there might be development between Admiral Janeway and Captain Chakotay. This doesn’t necessarily mean a character will die, and it’s questionable if such a romantic angle would fit in a children’s show. However, we fans just want to see more of love, friendship, and action!
