Kate Moss looks chic in a black coat and £90 patterned scarf from her her own Zara range as she steps out for lunch in Notting Hill – amid criticism over the new fashion line
As a fashion enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Kate Moss’ Glastonbury look from 2005 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic festival outfits ever. The effortless blend of boho chic and rock ‘n’ roll, paired with her natural, unapologetic cool, has left an indelible mark on fashion history.
Over the weekend, Kate Moss donned an item from her latest expensive Zara collection designed for parties, while enjoying lunch in Notting Hill, London.
50-year-old model exuded elegance in a sleek black trench coat and stylish patterned silk scarf priced at £89.99, during her leisurely day outing.
It comes amid criticism for the range with shoppers complaining about it online and stylists calling it ‘underwhelming’ and ‘a major disappointment’.
On the weekend, spotted in the city, she was dressed casually with minimal makeup, enjoying a meal at Sumi Restaurant located in the northern part of London.
Kate shared laughter and light-hearted banter with her companion following their afternoon at the upscale restaurant, accompanied by a shared smoke afterwards.
Beneath her woolen overcoat, Kate donned a cozy knit dress suitable for winter, carrying a stylish leather handbag alongside. Her golden hair flowed loosely in soft waves.
Despite the high anticipation surrounding her latest Zara line prior to its release, there has been a steady stream of complaints about it from customers on various online platforms.
Some stylists have called it ‘underwhelming’ and ‘a major disappointment’.
‘£199 for this very boring black trench coat?!’ one said online.
Tatiana de Normann, a stylist and personal shopper, expressed her disappointment after being initially thrilled about the collection, as many of her clients shared the same enthusiasm. However, she found the range to be underwhelming.
The shoes appear outdated, and the quality of their materials is disappointing given the cost. Many celebrity collaboration items, which are usually expensive, fail to deliver on the promise of superior materials. Zara, in my opinion, could offer a higher standard.
During the unveiling of the new fashion line, Kate expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I’ve had a wonderful time collaborating with Zara on various campaigns throughout the years, and have always admired their unique partnerships. So when Marta and I initially discussed this project, my excitement to design clothes once more and work with Katy England was palpable.
To explain her reasoning for the release, she mentioned: ‘I aimed to design a party-ready capsule for this line, offering stylish yet edgy items that exude an air of casual elegance.’
‘Mixing classic cuts with just the right amount of glam to take you through the party season.’
The “party capsule” collection was personally designed by Marta Ortega Pérez, who is both the head of Inditex (the parent company of Zara) and a seasoned designer, in collaboration with her consistent partner and fashion stylist, Katy England.
Since making a name for herself as the symbol of ’90s and ’00s fashion, she has accumulated numerous memorable styles throughout her career.
However, it could be argued that no other outfits are as iconic as the seemingly casual one she wore during her relationship with Pete Doherty in 2005 at Glastonbury.
According to James Brown, who is both a friend and stylist to Kate, she does not typically spend a lot of time meticulously planning her festival outfits in advance; instead, she tends to put them together on the day of the event itself.
The model donned a dazzling golden gown, previously owned by ’70s actress and Rolling Stones inspiration Anita Pallenberg, which quickly gained popularity, along with her Hunter rain boots.
Kate accessorized her ensemble with a “Rock Glastonbury” belt she bought just yesterday, and her hair hung naturally without much or any makeup.
Two decades on, the outfit that continues to spark conversation has undeniably served as a source of inspiration for one of Kate’s designs in her street-wear line.
Speaking about the memorable festival look, James told the Standard: ‘It happened straight away.
In his words, referring to the event following her wearing a yellow Calvin Klein dress at the 1995 Met Gala: ‘It turned into an instantly memorable and iconic moment.’
As a lifestyle expert, I can tell you that experiencing a “yellow dress moment” is truly special. It’s when something captures the zeitgeist so perfectly and swiftly that it becomes an instant cultural icon. Just like that yellow dress, it’s etched into our memories forever.
