Kate Lawler reveals she and her husband Martin have had couples therapy to get through ‘the toughest time in our relationship’

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but admire Kate Lawler’s courage and resilience in the face of challenging times. Her honesty about her struggles in marriage, particularly during post-natal depression, is a testament to her strength and her unwavering commitment to her relationship.

Kate Lawler openly discussed the challenging periods in her marriage with spouse Martin, acknowledging that marriage counseling played a crucial role in preserving their bond.

In June 2022, the individual who won Big Brother later became a DJ tied the knot with Martin Bojtos, the proprietor of a podcasting company. The couple had welcomed their daughter, Noa, into their family the year prior.

However, six months prior to their wedding, Martin suggested that they attend couple’s therapy due to difficulties in communication, as Kate was grappling with post-natal depression.

Kate shared with New Magazine that Martin proposed the idea approximately a year following her adoption of Noa. At that time, she was going through a challenging phase, and the situation was significantly straining our relationship.

Apart from that, since we were due to get married in six months, Martin felt it was important to begin our union on a strong foundation. Indeed, his intention was spot on.

Kate confessed that she became frightened when her partner proposed the idea, admitting, “I assumed he intended to end our relationship. That moment turned out to be the most difficult part of our connection.”

Raising a child can be the most difficult experience you’ll encounter, yet I firmly think that maintaining the vitality of your marriage post-childbirth presents an equally significant challenge.

The star called the therapy ‘invaluable’ and said the couple still have sessions every few months.

Prior to their marriage in 2022, Kate openly shared that they found themselves in the most challenging situation for any couple, discussing their relationship leading up to the nuptials.

She acknowledged that she hadn’t anticipated the significant change that occurred in their relationship after the arrival of their daughter Noa.

2021 saw her giving birth to their first child, Noa, despite her previous assertions that she had no desire to become a mother. Meanwhile, her longtime partner Martin, or “Boj” as he is fondly called, was eagerly anticipating children.

Hey Kate Thornton, on your White Wine Question Time podcast, you candidly shared a heartfelt truth about your relationship journey after becoming parents. You mentioned how drastically it has transformed, and while I’d love to say it’s all for the better, we both understand that unfortunately, our connection hasn’t been given the attention it deserves. We’re painfully aware that we need to make conscious efforts to revitalize our bond.

In two months, we are set to tie the knot, but this year has been our toughest yet as a couple.

However, it’s clear that the transformation in our lives is significant because we have taken on the role of being parents. This shift brings about a profound change in one’s existence.

She went on to say: ‘I didn’t expect the profound transformation in our relationship. I believed it would alter my life significantly, but I failed to consider its impact on us as a duo, despite friends warning me that we might both say things we don’t truly mean and become more exhausted than ever before.’

‘We went out for a curry the other night because I pointed out that since Noa was born a year ago we’ve only been out on our own on a date twice. It’s not good enough.’

This week, Kate humorously mentioned that her marriage seemed turbulent, as she, Martin, Noa, along with their canine companions Baxter and Shirley, carry on with their European summer road trip.

On Instagram, the celebrity openly admitted during a video post: “It seems like this road trip might lead to us parting ways.”

In winding roads shrouded by darkness during a prolonged, four-hour journey, Kate acknowledged her irritation with Martin’s driving and voiced it out.

I’ve pulled over at a rest area, and he seems to be taking an unusually long time in the restroom. As a joke, he’s browsing online about top-rated divorce lawyers here in the UK. (First person, paraphrased)

“Even though we have 600 miles left to travel, it seems like he might head for the ocean tomorrow and not come back. It’s as if he wants to escape from me.”
