Kate Hudson reveals why she refuses to use email

You know, as someone who’s always on the go, I’ve learned the importance of protecting your time and energy. That’s why I’ve completely ditched email! It was honestly draining my day, especially when I’m juggling a lot of projects. The constant notifications and inbox clutter just weren’t serving me anymore, so I made the switch and I feel so much more focused and productive now.

The 46-year-old Golden Globe nominee recently told People magazine she’s busier than she’s been in decades. This is thanks to the success of her new Netflix comedy, Running Point, and the upcoming release of her musical biopic, Song Sung Blue, which will be in theaters on Christmas Day.

Honestly, I’m feeling incredibly busy these days – it’s the most packed my schedule’s been since my twenties! It’s a whirlwind, but a really fascinating one.

With a busy life, Hudson has learned to better protect her personal time, especially when it comes to emails, texts, and other digital communication.

She admitted she really dislikes email. ‘I’m honest with people about it,’ she explained. ‘I don’t enjoy reading through so many emails every day – it completely throws off my mood.’

The actress added that anyone expecting a response via email is likely to be disappointed.

She said she’s unlikely to see or respond to emails, preferring to have a phone conversation instead.

Hudson, a mother of three and a busy professional, explained that the expectation of always being reachable through email is unrealistic and creates unnecessary pressure.

She explained that with so many demands on our time – from work and businesses to family – email has become the default way we communicate. However, she dislikes the pressure to respond to emails even on weekends, simply because email exists.

She explained that once she starts checking email, she quickly gets overwhelmed. “You realize you have hundreds of emails that would take days to answer,” she said, “so I have to stop. It just doesn’t work with how my mind needs to work creatively.”

Oh my gosh, Kate Hudson was just talking, and it totally blew my mind! She was reminiscing about some of the biggest moments in her career, and get this – she almost played Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man! Can you believe it?! She actually turned down the part that Kirsten Dunst ended up making iconic. I’m obsessed with hearing about these ‘what if’ moments – it’s wild to think how different things could have been!

Kate Hudson recently shared on Watch What Happens Live that she occasionally wonders what it would have been like to star in a Marvel superhero movie, saying it ‘would’ve been fun’ to have been involved.

She emphasized that Dunst was perfectly suited for the role, and added that it’s never pleasant to second-guess casting choices after the fact.

You know, people often ask me about career choices, and I always say it’s about more than just the role. For me, taking on ‘The Four Feathers’ was one of those decisions. It wasn’t just a film; it was a really formative experience. I gained so much from it, not just professionally, but personally. I actually formed a beautiful, lasting friendship with Heath Ledger during filming, and that’s something I cherish to this day. It really showed me the power of collaboration and connection on set.

She’s admitted that turning down the role in The Devil Wears Prada was a mistake. She couldn’t accept the part of Andrea Sachs because of a conflict with another project she was already committed to.

Anne Hathaway eventually landed the role, and Meryl Streep received an Oscar nomination for playing Miranda Priestly.

Even though she feels she could have taken different paths, Hudson believes her career happened exactly as it should. She’s still interested in taking on new roles, and would even consider appearing in a comic book adaptation if the opportunity felt right.

Hudson is experiencing significant Oscar buzz for Song Sung Blue.

Previously she was nominated for an Academy Award for her breakout role in Almost Famous (2001).
