Kate Hudson says she’s starting to rebuild her relationship with her father, Bill Hudson, after years of tension between them.
The 76-year-old musician, who has two children – Kate, 47, and Oliver, 49 – with his former wife Goldie Hawn, shocked many in 2018 when he publicly made very harsh accusations against his daughter, calling her ‘spoiled and badly behaved’ and claiming she had done terrible things.
Bill and Goldie have been together since 1976, but were only married for six years, until 1982. After Goldie married Kurt Russell in 1983, her children started to see him as a father figure, affectionately calling him ‘Pa’.
During a recent interview with The Guardian, Kate was asked about her relationship with Bill, seven years after he published a revealing book about their history. She first stated they weren’t close, but then admitted things were starting to improve, saying their relationship was ‘warming up’.
Kate and her brother Oliver have both openly shared how they felt let down by their father, Bill, when they were growing up, and they see Kurt as the father figure who truly raised them.

Bill’s 2018 memoir, 2 Versions, caused a stir with his revelations about his daughter, including his assertion that he urged her to reconnect with their grandmother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
He understands Kate isn’t obligated to speak to him or offer any financial help. He simply wishes she would call and acknowledge him as ‘Grandma’ before it’s too late.
I’ve tried reaching Kate repeatedly – I’ve called and texted her so many times asking her to help her grandmother, but she hasn’t gotten back to me.
I care about Kate, but I believe her actions have been manipulative and harmful, not just to me, but to her siblings as well. I see her as entitled and she’s done some truly terrible things.
Kate first said they didn’t have a relationship, but she quickly clarified that things are improving.
Kate recently shared that she’s back in touch with her half-sister, Emily, age 19. Emily is the daughter of Kate’s father, Bill, and actress Cindy Williams, who sadly passed away last year at age 75. Kate had previously mentioned reconnecting with Emily in the past year.
Bill and Cindy were also parents to son Zachary, 39. They were married until 2000.
Bill recently shared that his daughter Emily welcomed a baby, and he praised his wife Kate for her support. He also expressed his joy at seeing his children connect and build relationships as adults.

Bill later welcomed 19-year-old daughter Lalania with ex-girlfriend Caroline Graham.
According to a source who spoke with Us Weekly, Goldie Hawn is pleased that Kate and Oliver Hudson are reconnecting with their father, Bill Hudson, after many years. The source said, ‘They’re all grown up and can make their own decisions, and everyone supports their choices now.’
Kate surprised many people last year when she shared on CBS Sunday Morning that, despite being estranged from her father, Bill, for most of her life, she simply hopes he finds happiness.
Oh my gosh, even before everything really blew up, Oliver was already being so open about his issues with his dad! I remember seeing this thing online – it was back in 2015, on Father’s Day of all days! He posted something on Instagram…it wasn’t exactly a loving tribute, let me tell you. It was…pointed. He really didn’t hold back, and honestly, I was shocked, but also… strangely fascinated. It was the first sign of the drama to come, and I’ve been following it all ever since!
The actor playfully wished Kate Hudson a ‘Happy Abandonment Day’ as a nod to Father’s Day, sharing a childhood photo of himself, Kate, and their father, from whom they are estranged.

During an interview with the Daily Mail, Bill spoke as though he had cut off all ties with both his son, Oliver, and his sister, Kate.
He announced that while he has five biological children, he now considers himself the father of only three. He’s decided he no longer considers Oliver and Kate to be his children and has asked them not to use the Hudson surname.
As a longtime supporter, it breaks my heart to hear them talk about this. They’ve made it clear that Oliver and Kate are completely out of their life now. They described Oliver’s Instagram post as a really deliberate and hurtful attack, and said they consider him – and Kate – gone from their life completely. It’s such a sad way to put it, saying they’re mourning people who are still alive, but it really shows how deeply hurt they are.
He brought up Kate because she posted a photo on Instagram with her stepfather, Kurt, on that Father’s Day in 2015.

She wrote a heartfelt Father’s Day message saying, ‘Dad, thank you. Happy Father’s Day. I love you so much! ✨ #HappyFathersDay.’ However, it seems her biological father felt hurt by the post.
Bill said his daughter’s photo was too personal and he felt uncomfortable with it as her father. He didn’t want to discuss it further.
He continued to blame his ex-wife, Goldie Hawn, claiming she had deliberately caused a rift between him and their children over the years.
