Kate Garraway shares emotions over first Christmas without Derek
As a dedicated fan of Kate Garraway, it is heart-wrenching to witness her journey through such unimaginable pain and loss. Yet, her resilience and strength are truly inspiring. Spending her first Christmas without Derek Draper must be an indescribable sorrow, yet she chooses to share this experience with the world, hoping to shed light on the vital role of carers.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share that Kate Garraway, the vibrant host of Good Morning Britain, has bravely shared her feelings about celebrating her first Christmas without her partner, Derek Draper.
In the initial phase of the 2020 pandemic, Derek unfortunately got infected with COVID-19 and needed to stay for an extended duration in an intensive care unit.
24/7 care was necessary for him once he returned home, unfortunately, he passed away in January of this year.
On December 25th (Christmas Day), Kate is preparing to appear alongside her colleagues Susanna Reid and Ed Balls in a special holiday episode of their program, set to be broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX at 7 am.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that an upcoming special episode will highlight the crucial role of caregivers, with the heartfelt story of Kate as she bravely prepares for her first Christmas without her beloved husband.
Susanna is quite unrefined, I must say. She reminded me that just a year ago, Derek was still with us, albeit severely ill.
Last year felt like our most challenging Christmas, as strangely enough, we held onto much optimism that he would be returning then. However, it seems I’m still navigating the early phases of my grief, as the sadness and emotional burden persist.
Kate and Derek are parents to Billy, aged 15, and Darcey, aged 18, who relocated to college in September.
The course of Derek’s struggle against COVID-19 was captured in three acclaimed documentary films, each detailing how the entire family navigated his illness after receiving the diagnosis.
2021 saw the release of “Kate Garraway: Finding Derek,” and a year later, in 2022, came “Kate Garraway’s series about caring for Derek.
Ultimately, “Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story” made its debut in 2024, and it was recognized with a National Television Award in the ‘Best Authored Documentary’ category in September.
During their Christmas special, “Good Morning Britain” will showcase tunes by Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, along with a number performed by the Broadway cast of “The Lion King.
Fans can look forward to viewing unique snippets from the Christmas episodes of “Emmerdale” and “Call the Midwife,” featuring popular actors such as Ned Porteous, Tony Audenshaw (from “Emmerdale”), and Jenny Agutter (from “Call the Midwife”). These stars will share insights about the holiday storylines they are involved in.
Good Morning Britain will air on Christmas Day from 7am on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
