Kate Garraway reveals her father is ‘stable’ and ‘taking it day by day’ after he was rushed to hospital two weeks ago as she shares ‘very scary’ ordeal
As a seasoned observer of public figures and their personal lives, I must express my deepest sympathies for Kate Garraway and her family during these trying times. The resilience and fortitude displayed by Kate, especially after losing her husband Derek Draper, is truly commendable.
Kate Garraway has shared that her father, Gordon, is currently in a stable condition following his recent hospitalization, which occurred about two weeks back. She made this announcement on Wednesday.
On Good Morning Britain and Smooth Radio, the host, aged 57, explained why she had been absent lately, following worries raised when she failed to show up for her usual time slots.
On Instagram, Kate publicly disclosed an alarming incident that occurred during their family vacation. She mentioned her 89-year-old father suddenly fell ill, joining them on the trip with her mother.
Additionally, she commended her fellow team members Ranvir Singh, Charlotte Hawkins, Tina Hobley, and Myleene Klass for handling her appearances on the morning programs.
She mentioned: “Hello everyone, I’ve been away due to my father collapsing two weeks ago during our family vacation with my mother at my brother’s place. I had to rush him to the hospital.”
“Though it was extremely terrifying, I’m incredibly relieved that he’s now steady and showing some signs of improvement in the hospital. We have a lot to be thankful for, and we’re focusing on each day as it comes.”
I’d like to express my deep gratitude to the remarkable NHS staff for their unending compassion and the love they pour into caring for each of their patients, a fact that has greatly touched my mother and our entire family.

It’s been shared that Kate’s father experienced both a stroke and a heart attack on July 16th; however, she has not revealed what led to his urgent hospitalization.
A week ago, it’s said that Kate hurriedly left work just a few minutes following the conclusion of the ITV program, after learning that her father had fallen ill.
Recently, Kate has adjusted her work routine temporarily to fill in for regular Monday-Thursday host Susanna Reid during her summer vacation.
Last Thursday, it was Ranvir who stepped in for her usual spot as Kate was absent due to spending time with her father and family.
Today, it has been confirmed on the program’s Twitter account that Ranvir will be hosting alongside Richard Madeley starting at 6am on ITV1.
According to a source, it is with deep regret that I share the news that Kate’s father took ill earlier this week while they were all vacationing together in Cornwall.
His situation appeared extremely alarming when he was discovered unconscious, promptly rushed to the hospital. Given the circumstances, it appears there might have been a stroke, perhaps even a heart attack too; medical professionals are currently conducting further examinations.
He’s still in the hospital, and at the moment, his condition is steady. However, considering the circumstances, it’s only natural that this situation has given the entire family a tremendous fright. They’re hoping fervently for his speedy recovery.
As a devoted admirer putting words to this moment, I’d say that I’ve been informed it’s a challenging period for the loved ones. Yet, in true selfless fashion, Kate is tirelessly working to ensure everyone’s well-being and care.
Reflecting on my own experiences, I can truly empathize with Kate and the challenging journey she has been navigating this year. Losing a spouse is never easy, but the circumstances surrounding Derek Draper’s death due to Covid-19 must have made it even more difficult. Having gone through a similar loss myself, I know how time can seem to stand still, and the pain of grief can be all-consuming. My heart goes out to Kate, and I hope she finds solace in the memories they shared and the love that will continue to bind them together, even as he is no longer physically present.
Derek experienced a highly severe case of COVID-19 in the UK, as the virus caused widespread damage to all his organs.
In the year 2005, Derek – a previous associate of the Labour party and a practicing psychotherapist – tied the knot with Kate. Together, they became parents to Darcey, now 17 years old, and Billy, who is 14.
In the year following his Covid infection in 2020, he managed to discharge from the hospital and go back to his residence in North London, where he received continuous care provided around the clock.
In August 2022, he was admitted to the hospital due to sepsis, yet managed to recover. However, in early December 2023, unfortunately, Derek suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital once more.
Deeply mournful, I find myself compelled to share this heart-wrenching news. Alas, our beloved idol, Derek, was unable to surmount the recent medical crisis. On the bleak day of January 5th, our cherished Kate officially confirmed that Derek had departed from us, leaving an indelible void in our hearts.
