As I delve into this heartwarming tale, I can’t help but be moved by Kate Garraway’s courage and resilience. Her story is a testament to the human spirit’s indomitable nature, a beacon of hope for those who are going through tough times.

On the occasion of their 20th wedding anniversary, Kate Garraway fondly recalled her late husband, Derek Draper, expressing gratitude to all for having experienced his love, which she considers herself extremely fortunate to have known.

In January, Derek, who is the father of both Kate (age 57) and their children Darcey (age 18) and Billy (age 14), passed away due to complications related to Covid-19 at the age of 56.

Kate shared a video with her 1.3M Instagram followers explaining what the day meant to her.

She began: ‘Today would’ve been my 20th wedding anniversary to Derek.

Today marks our 20th wedding anniversary with Derek, and it’s like celebrating a special holiday, such as Christmas or Easter. These occasions, including his birthday, hold an extraordinary significance that feels almost overwhelming.

Specifically, I’ve found myself wallowing in self-pity due to its deeply personal nature.

Instead of focusing on how everyone else was preoccupied with family and friends when he was present, this day holds a uniquely significant importance for both him and me.

His absence really hits me hard, making me feel as if I can hear a loud, persistent train whistle, symbolizing his conspicuous lack.

As they all advise, I’ve been immersed in the depths of my sorrow, and it’s during these moments that I find myself revisiting the heartfelt anniversary messages penned on our cards. Those words, a testament to the beauty of our romance and love, serve as a constant reminder of how fortunate I am to have experienced such tender emotions in my life. Truly, I consider myself blessed.

On the National Television Awards airing on a Wednesday, Kate is hopeful to win the award for Best Authored Documentary for Derek’s Story, which is Derek’s final documentary.

She’s in competition with Rose Ayling-Elis for “Signs Of Change”, Rhod Gilbert for “A Pain In The Neck” (Standing Up 2 Cancer), Robbie Williams for his self-titled documentary, and David Beckham for “Beckham”.

Kate watched the documentary before the NTAs and shared with her audience that she was deeply impressed by Derek’s resilient spirit.

She urged spectators to cast their late votes for Derek’s Story and further inspired them to vote for the ‘remarkable’ programs in the other categories as well.

In a caption for Tuesday’s post, Kate expressed her feelings as follows: “Today marks our wedding anniversary, and I find myself overwhelmed with emotions, yet incredibly thankful for the many blessings Derek has brought into my life.

Embracing my sorrow by revisiting his old notes and watching documentary ‘#dereksstory’, serves as a reminder of his relentless struggle to regain parts of his life and advocate for change for others.

Tomorrow marks the official #NTAS, and it will be challenging to be without him with us. However, Darcey, Bill, and I will persevere – to celebrate his life, amplify the message he wished to share, and honor all medical professionals worldwide, including those who are paid and unpaid, for their tireless efforts they exhibit daily.

If you’re able, please cast your vote for Derek’s story. There are numerous excellent programs to choose from, and the voting link can be found both here and in my bio. Let’s show our caring society by never giving up! #dereksstory #caring Society #nevergiveup
