Kate Garraway admits making “many mistakes” since death of husband Derek Draper
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share that Kate Garraway has openly discussed her journey filled with numerous missteps, as she grapples with the loss of her beloved husband, Derek Draper.
On a recent occasion, the host of “Good Morning Britain” shared about the sorrow she’s experienced following the death of her husband, who succumbed to difficulties resulting from Covid-19 in January 2024, after having been infected himself back in March 2020.
Garraway is a parent of two kids – Darcey, 19, and William, 15 – with Draper. Since the passing of Derek, Garraway has openly shared that they have found parenting challenging.

“This is the hardest part of grieving,” she told the Daily Mail Weekend Magazine.
“There are so many moments where I just think, ‘Derek, where are you?’
Currently, I find myself juggling multiple roles – the one who brings joy, the organizer, and the one who sometimes worries excessively, thinking ‘Oh dear, it seems like you might not pass anything!’
“I make so many mistakes, but don’t we all? Is there really such a thing as a perfect mother?”
Over the course of three documentaries, Kate Garraway has candidly discussed Derek’s health struggles. The final installment, titled “Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story“, was released posthumously in 2024 and won her a National Television Award in the Best Authored Documentary category.
Previously, it was disclosed that the presenter had accumulated a significant amount of debt due to the continuous care provided by Derek, which amounts to approximately £800,000 in medical expenses.
Last March, the broadcaster expressed it this way: “Derek’s requirements were so immense, but he wasn’t eligible for funded support, which made people wonder, ‘If not him, then who would?’
She added: “So far, no one has reached out to me after his death regarding that matter. It’s possible they might, but they haven’t thus far.
Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story is available on ITVX.
