Kate Ferdinand Limits Family Size to ‘Save Sanity’ After Welcoming 5 Kids
Kate Ferdinand disclosed that she and her spouse, Rio Ferdinand, have decided not to expand their family further, as they currently have five children together.
Previously known for her role on TOWIE, she is now 33 years old and welcomed her first child, Cree, into the world in December 2020. Since then, she has also become a mother to Shae with ex-footballer Rio, who is 46 years old.
In addition to being Rio’s wife, Kate is also the step-parent of Lorenz (age 18), Tate (age 16), and Tia (age 13) – children from an earlier marriage of Rio to Rebecca Ellison, who passed away in 2015.
In their household, the Ferdinands are managing a busy brood that includes two toddlers and three adolescents, so it’s safe to say they’re well-versed in handling the pressures of family life.
However, it’s been determined by Kate that Shae is their last-born child, as they are choosing not to have any more children due to concerns about her mother’s mental health.
During a conversation on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast with Giovanna Fletcher, Kate expressed her respect towards individuals who have more than five kids. She shared that personally, managing love and care for more than five children would pose a challenge for her.

1) Option 1: “We’re done having kids; we won’t be having any more.”
“We decided our family is complete; we don’t plan on having any more kids.”
Explanation: This option also communicates that the speaker does not want to have additional children, but it uses slightly different wording to emphasize the idea of a deliberate decision.
3) Option 3: “This will be our final child; we don’t intend on having any more.”
“We knew that [Shae] would be our last child; we don’t plan on having any more.”
5) Option 1: “We knew our mental well-being wouldn’t be able to handle another child.”
Explanation: This option expresses that the speaker has concerns about their ability to care for another child while maintaining good mental health.
6) Option 2: “Our family’s mental health is already stretched thin; we can’t take on another child.”
Explanation: This option conveys a similar sentiment as Option 1, but it emphasizes the idea that the family as a whole may not be able to handle additional stress.
7) Option 3: “We knew having more children would negatively impact our mental health; we don’t want to risk it.”
Explanation: This option explains that the speaker has concerns about the potential negative effects on their mental health if they were to have more children, and as a result, they choose not to do so.
In another part of the show, Kate sadly confessed that she believed Rio’s teenage children did not express affection for her after the birth of their first child together.
Kate shared candidly about her postnatal encounters with her stepchildren, discussing the feelings of being misunderstood by them following the birth.
She mentioned about the period following her birth: ‘After my birth, I was quite emotional. It seems when you’re only with your spouse and you’ve got young children, your husband understands what happened during childbirth, and that you might experience intense feelings, so he allows me to handle it.’
Young adults may not fully comprehend this situation, as they haven’t lived it before, right? It was as if nobody valued or cherished me during that time.
I recall descending the stairs, and then it seemed as if they were all gathered on the couch. I looked at them and said, “It seems none of you care for me.
They behaved as if they were typical teenagers, and in response, I expressed something like this: “You all seem unconcerned about me, as if neither of you cherish nor desire my presence upstairs.
Initially, I was alone, but suddenly, it felt as if four pairs of eyes were questioning my well-being, making me feel judged.” This version maintains the original meaning while using more natural and easy to read language.

As a lifestyle expert, I can empathize that adjusting to significant life changes, such as having a newborn, can be overwhelming for anyone. For instance, just like Kate, who has recently welcomed a baby into her life, may find herself navigating uncharted emotional territory. This transition might cause feelings of confusion or even temporary instability, but it’s all part of the process as she adapts to her new role and finds her footing in this exciting phase of her life.
It comes after last year Kate revealed if she and husband Rio want to have more children.
The TV host conducted an interactive session on Instagram, during which she was queried regarding potential expansion of their combined family.
When asked if she wanted more children, Kate responded by saying: “We’ve had our fill; five children are quite sufficient for us.
Kate additionally disclosed details about the workout routine she followed post-delivery, specifically after undergoing a scheduled c-section during Shae’s birth.
Earlier last month, the television personality flaunted her stunning physique in various swimsuits during their vacation getaway with the family.
After a fan inquired about the time span Kate spent recuperating before starting Pilates, she responded by saying: “I began exercising again 6 weeks later.
‘I think this was actually eight weeks after the baby.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’ve found myself returning to my mat once more. We’ve gone back to the essentials, revisiting the fundamental moves that form the foundation of my practice. Gradually, we’re working our way back up, layer by layer, ensuring a solid base before moving on to more complex routines.
‘You loose all strength so it really is a process that takes time. Be easy on yourself.’
After Kate confessed that she felt concerned about having another child alongside her husband Rio, as it might alter the dynamics within their family.
Kate shared with The Mirror that adjusting to a new baby in the household is something that concerns everyone, including herself and Rio. The arrival of a new family member inevitably alters the family dynamic, but as with most life changes, everyone eventually adapts. In time, one learns to navigate this change and establish personal space.
However, Kate openly acknowledged that she was grappling with mom guilt and felt the need to excel in multiple roles, such as being a fantastic mother, wife, fitness enthusiast, and maintaining an attractive appearance.
She asked, “In what way can I divide myself among five children to ensure I provide each of them with ample attention and quality time?” or
She wondered, “How do I manage to be present for all five of my children while giving them all quality individual time?
‘I can’t always manage it, as it’s unattainable. However, I’m finding it particularly challenging at present. Being a mom brings about immense guilt, but ultimately, one just has to persevere through it since perfection is unachievable.’
