Kate Beckinsale’s Heartbreaking Birthday Tribute to Late Stepfather Roy Battersby

On Easter Sunday, which would have been his birthday, Kate Beckinsale paid a heartfelt homage to her late stepfather, Roy Battersby, in a touching tribute.

In January 2024, the actress posted on Instagram a radiant photograph of Roy, who had passed away, posing with an Easter egg and surrounded by a beautiful arrangement of daffodils.

Additionally, Kate posted a sweet vintage photo featuring herself as a youngster with Roy, as well as a family picture that includes her daughter, Lily Sheen, and her mom, Judy.

In honor of Roy’s birthday, she wrote: “Dear Roy, Happy Birthday! Could you make a reappearance again – perhaps tomorrow? That would be wonderful.

It’s becoming increasingly tough without you. I adore you immensely, and it would have been wonderful if you could celebrate your birthday and Easter together this year. Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow. I will be waiting for you at the entrance of the cave.

Roy was a British television director and died in January 2024 at the age of 87.

Back in 1979, when I was merely a five-year-old kid filled with dreams, the world lost one of its most captivating talents – Richard Beckinsale, the first husband of my beloved Judi Dench and Kate’s father. At only 31 years old, he left us far too soon.

Kate’s currently facing a tough patch in her family life, with her mother, Judy, fighting stage four cancer.

Last year, it became known that Judy had fallen ill, not too much time having passed since the death of Roy, who had experienced a severe stroke.

During that period, Kate was hospitalized for several weeks due to a tear in her esophagus caused by stress following Roy’s death and her mother’s illness.

In July, she shared her current state, stating: “Life has its challenges, and everyone experiences them. I’ve been very open about the struggles I’ve faced.

‘I’ve just been mainly dealing with my mother and she’s doing OK.’ 

Initially, she disclosed that her recent weight loss was a result of the emotional strain and sorrow caused by her stepfather’s passing and her mother’s illness.

Last week, Kate posted pictures showing her and Judy strolling side by side, spending a delightful time together.

On that particular outing, Kate donned a bright, white faux-fur coat atop a beige blouse, complemented by black and gray plaid pants.

In an interesting twist, the actor from the Underworld films accessorized with a pair of large-platformed black boots. Each boot bore a distinct message: one read ‘F’, while the other said ‘OFF’.

She wore some circular black sunglasses with black lenses, matching them with a black headband.

Kate adorned an ear with a swinging gold cross ring and another with a gold hoop as she spent a charming afternoon at the park with her mom.

In the scene, 78-year-old Judy was seated in a wheelchair, her face radiating a smile, next to Kate. She sported a sleek, black zip-up jacket adorned with white speckles.

Judy, aged 78, sat beaming in a wheelchair beside Kate, both of them clad in their stylish outfits; Judy donned a chic black jacket with dots of white.

‘Living, loving nature (breathing fresh air, embracing trees, raising goose young ones), cherishing life.’

On Mother’s Day, she expressed a heartfelt and tearful message to her mom, letting her know that ‘no matter what path you’re traveling, I’m traveling it with you,’ during her fight against cancer.

In her social media post, Kate referred to Judy as her “accomplice”, sharing a series of images documenting her mother’s cancer journey and treasured moments that are close to her heart.

Kate openly acknowledged they have faced tough times as a team, and in a touching tribute, expressed that her mother holds a special place in her heart.

In recent days, Kate also asked for good wishes to be sent to her ‘extraordinary’ mother.

Upon revisiting Instagram after some time away, she posted: “I wasn’t planning on returning to Instagram, but if anyone has a moment of prayer, magic, miracles or sunbeams, could you direct them towards my mom? My incredibly resilient, kind-hearted, selfless, humble, loving, one-of-a-kind, incomparable mother.

I appreciate it – Dear God, protect her tonight, free from all her worries, let angels watch over her as she dreams until the dawn breaks, so be it. Amen.
