Kate Beckinsale pays tribute to her beloved cat Clive on the second anniversary of his death at 19: ‘I lost the love of my life’
On the second anniversary of Clive’s passing, Kate Beckinsale honored her cherished feline companion.
The actress, aged 51, referred to the cat as her “dearest companion” while posting numerous photos and videos of them together.
The movie star shared that she yearns for her feline companion daily, a feeling she once thought absurd in others, until becoming a pet owner herself.
Two years ago today, I sadly lost the one true love of mine. Over this time, I’ve had plenty of moments to ponder on why my grief remains so raw, and I believe it’s because, despite our deep human affection, it’s rare for it to be truly unconditional – except perhaps towards an infant. However, the boundless and unconditional love you receive from a soulmate, or even an animal, is like nothing else on earth.

It seemed as if those small, fluffy gray paws kept at bay an unending torment until he could no longer resist it. Then, one after another, came sorrow, fear, and despair. Yet, I am deeply thankful for the many years he made me feel secure in a way no human ever did before.
Initially, I didn’t fully understand those who mourned the loss of their pets deeply, considering my father passed away at a young age. However, it’s a humbling reminder that one can never truly grasp another’s pain until they have experienced something similar themselves.
In addition, Kate posted a picture of an artwork by her friend that happened to depict Clive, which she just so happened to see on the very day marking the anniversary of his demise.
She expressed: ‘My heart is irrevocably shattered, and it remains so. I miss him profoundly each day. A few months after he passed away, I told my mother that no one will ever gaze at me with the same level of complete adoration, absolute acceptance, benevolently amused approval, and intense fascination as he did.’
She remarked, “Your father would often gaze at you in that manner.” Moving on, I appreciate each one of you for cherishing him as much as I did and understanding the unique significance he held in my life. It brings me immense joy to have had the opportunity to impart his charm onto all of you.

Kate’s Instagram tribute comes after she confessed to sleeping with Clive’s ashes after his death.
In June 2024, at the age of 19, Clive passed away, leaving Van Helsing utterly devastated. It was evident that she was still grappling with her feelings.

She frequently adorned him for Christmas and Halloween, and it was common to spot them both in matching ensembles.
‘We got him when my daughter [Lily Sheen, now 20] was little,’ she told People in 2019.
‘And he usually is shaved into an odd shape, but he’s a recent cancer survivor.’
When discussing Clive’s character with the media, the mother of one enthusiastically shared that his most cherished items include suitcases, containers, and bags.
She excitedly said, “If you bring home shoes or a bag, he jumps right in! That’s why we bought him a suitcase bed, and he adores it!
Beckinsale also stated that she prefers cats because they’re ‘easier’ to care for than dogs.
