Katamari Creator Keita Takahashi Left Bandai Namco to Make Games With People From Other Countries
Keita Takahashi, the mind behind “Katamari Damacy”, shared that his departure from Bandai Namco was driven by a desire to collaborate on game development projects with creators from various parts of the world, rather than just focusing on Japan.
During an interview with GameSpark, Takahashi expressed that he chose to depart from his previous employer as he desired more freedom to collaborate with a wider range of individuals beyond those within the company. (This sentence was translated by Automaton.)
Subsequently, he shared that he was seeking creative suggestions not only from inside his own studio at Namco, but also from other parts of the company and even beyond Japanese borders.
As a game enthusiast, I found myself creating games almost exclusively with Japanese peers. A thought crossed my mind: what if I could collaborate with folks from diverse global backgrounds? That way, I could gather ideas from a multitude of perspectives. Now, I’m embarking on an exciting journey, teaming up with game developers from all corners of the world to bring innovative and culturally rich games to life.
Takahashi’s recent creation is titled “To the Core“, and it revolves around a youth finding themselves frozen in a T-like stance, with their limbs extended sideways.
The description reads:
Experience life as a teenager living in a quaint coastal town. Accompanied by your faithful dog and caring mother, you roam the streets of this familiar place. As you juggle schoolwork and deal with schoolyard bullies, you suddenly find yourself developing an unusual talent due to your distinctive posture. This discovery sets you off on a journey to uncover the secrets surrounding your fascinating family history.
to a T is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on 28th May.
